Hello :)
There was a lady on the news about a year ago, she had a noisy lad, she tried all ways to prevent him from crowing at first light. What worked for her was to keep him in the dark, until she could let him out in the morning. So no more early wake up calls for her neighbor's :)
My Jabberwocky crowed all night. 3:00 am, was nothing for him. Darkness seemed to have no effect.

It's about time I said hello to everyone in this thread my apologies for not doing so earlier.

Hi there :frow
I'm in BYC because I love animals of most kinds and not only chickens. When I came across this thread I found it interesting then got carried away on reading about Bob's goat and totally forgot to properly introduce myself.

I first discovered BYC when I was trying to find answers on keeping chickens and at the same time still learning too use the internet plus this site.

Thanks to all that have replied to me :)
Welcome. Do you have any chickens? It's not necessary that you do. You are more than welcome to participate either way.

By the way, the goat actually belongs to @Kris5902 but she has been adopted by all of us in a virtual way. :gig

:goodpost: Very true. (That goat ate part of my laptop) I’m kidding :D

Hattie and Sydney to the Rescue!

Yesterday we were going to see my parents for the first time since November. We would celebrate all of the January Birthdays and Christmas all at once. I decided that I would make a batch of my gingersnaps as they are my Dad's favorites. I broke away from my computer and gathered all of the ingredients. I started mixing the dough and went to grab an egg from the fridge and they were all gone. There were eggs in the drawer the day before but there were none now. They had all been used up.

I don't just get eggs anywhere. I need free range ladies that are well cared for. What to do!

Well we have not received a fresh egg from our ladies since Hattie laid a few back in December. Well, I thought, what have I got to lose. Out to the coop I went.

As I went out, Sydney came running from the coop. I thought nothing of it other than her thinking I had treats!

Wrong.

I opened the nest box lid to the most beautiful site. 2 fresh eggs just waiting for me. My day was saved. The ladies benefited greatly in the form of too many snacks yesterday. Hattie & Sydney ate corn until they were busting I was so happy. Add in some more sunshine and tribe had themselves a day yesterday. A day they truly deserved.

How awesome!!

I was actually going to do a surprise egg drop for you this weekend, but then I saw you were away. I'm glad the ladies came through for you!

Hello Marie2020.
It's not a problem really. I'm awake at 0630. It's more a question of Cillin not getting enough sleep. I try not to go to bed too late but it seems his best sleep is almost as soon as he settles on the roost bar when he's in the coop. I have changed to covering the base of the pet carrier with a cardboard box which keeps out more light and gives him more headroom.

Things have been desperate around here. How many are you getting now? I'm sorry that we missed you. It would have been nice to catch up in person.

My sister sent me a photo of sudden egg abundance yesterday, said they had only been getting maybe two a day (20+ chickens) and suddenly they got about 15. Hoping this means mine might lay again soon too! They also finally seem to have red combs :)
I find red combs to be a great sign of impending eggs. 😁
