If there is a cavity you don’t want to seal the skin. Better to pack it with gauze and let his tissue fill it in. Closing it up risks trapping infection inside.
If that is a crack it may not need lancing. Could maybe pull the gunk out through that crack.
By “closing it up” I mean bringing the skin on either side of the wound closer together before I cover it. If it wasn’t for it being on his foot and our wet and muddy conditions I wouldn’t be so nervous. I would like to restrict his movement and keep him in a clean dog crate TBH, but it would stress him out way more than I’m comfortable with. I will be moving him to new grass and getting ready to actually use the fence to confine them a bit at first. I would love for it to just completely clear up on its own... As for getting the gunk out the bottom, it’s mostly healed Up and looks good, it would be sort of like trying to drain an abscess on the back of your hand by going through the palm. I think the crack is some remainder of the initial bumble I didn’t get fully out responding to the antibiotics. I hope

Everyone is holding steady after the snow. I even collected 9 eggs today!!

Thank you so much for these. It is great to see them again. Ned is really handsome.

Lucky has got some fluffy hips on her. She is also colored like a true predator, light below and dark on top. Really good looking chickens!

This is my thinking, doesn’t really make sense does it?
It’s not something I ever considered in the past, it says it for the age range you are feeding it to so I guess I took it at face value that it had what they needed in it.
Reading through this thread has opened my eyes a bit and got me looking into what the commercial feeds have in them a bit more so I can hopefully choose one that will be best for the 3 of them that is also cost effective 🤔
Medicated chick feed.

Feed for laying hens only.

A feed okay for all chickens.

@Kris5902 is primarily posting here these days. She has dropped her thread I believe. She now has a baby goat the sleeps with her and Andrew in the trailer. The house is partially built but because of COVID all the permits expired and they had to stop work. Her best rooster, Roostie, has an infected foot and she is contemplating doing foot surgery.

I think that covers it in summary. Kris will add what I have missed.
I use iodine for infection after bathing in warm salt water. I hope her rooster heals well.
