But I think you are right: Shad has many cat~like qualities. Could be why he's so well liked on these threads! ;):lau

Some people may not get the reference. ;)

Sad News I'm afraid.
The vet looked her over and said her condition appears neurological
. Could be Marek's Disease (her neck was weak and her head was pointing back), a spinal injury, poisoning or a number of other things none of which can be realistically treated :hit. I asked the vet to euthanase her. 😢

I gave her a quick once over when I looked at her this morning @micstrachan . She felt heavy to me. I couldn't feel her crop, her vent was a bit pink with some poo on the feathers. Her last egg was in around March last year I think. She was in the middle of a light moult. The vet said that her breast muscles were atrophied which I hadn't noticed so she has probably been sick for a while.

The only odd behaviour I had noticed in the last few weeks was that she preferred to roost on the floor instead of on the perch. She roosted on the high perch the night before last so...who knows?

I'm sorry it is such sudden bad news.

I'm sitting in the study looking out the window. Deana is perched on the back of the garden bench alone. 😭

Thank you for your kind thoughts everyone.❤
This is such sad news. I am a bit of a fan of the leghorns on this site, because of my own lovely girl Blanche. And I enjoyed the Tsuki stories always.
🙏🙏🙏💔

Depending on the protein level, why not keep them on Starter and add free-choice calcium separate for the layers? Not sure what else is changed for Layer versus Starter, perhaps fat level, would have to compare labels. Every brand seems to be so different!
This is what I have done so far. My birds are still on 20% grower feed and oyster shell on the side.
I look at all-flock feeds but they seem essentially the same nutrient wise, and at TSC my grower feed is a dollar cheaper per 50 pound bag. A dollar is a dollar.
my birds all seem to be doing really well.

Remembrances

Everyone knows my recent snowy day project. It is fun to look back and remember our friends from before. However, with Tsuki passing I was trying to stay away from any photos of Daisy, the greatest hen ever, as I did not want to cry. No matter my best efforts, I randomly came across this photo. Joyously, it did not make me cry, rather it brought a smile to my face.

Daisy, Patsy, and Lilly were our tribe for years. Only Lilly remains but this is the group that I will always picture when I think of our chickens. Here is the Big Three discussing what their next adventure should be. Hopefully it will make you all smile as it has me.

They are awesome hens ❤️😍

Norwegian Forrest cats do not have fur, they have hair. Hence many people with cat allergies can have them as pets. As another plus, they seem to share some personality traits with certain posters on this thread. 😉
