Maggie
I said the other day Maggie got her mojo back, but I had forgotten what full-on Maggie is like.
She is loud and independent minded. She is curious and contrarian.
I love her.
Today she rushed the Palace door when I opened it to get in. Remember I am only able to get to the door by balancing on scrap plywood to get over the snow mountain. So she is immediately faced with a wall of snow which she starts eating with gusto.
I managed to coax her back in with some rice from the Thai food last night which caused her to yell at me (presumably because I ate the curry myself and didn’t share).
Oh Maggie, welcome back to your full life!

Weirdly I don’t have many walls. I live in a house that is one room thick with windows on both sides of each room and on 3 sides of the rooms at the ends. Like train carriages.
I love it because it is like living outside with the daylight and greenery, but it is a challenge in terms of furniture against walls and hanging anything!
I need to inspect the walls and see how to make space.
There are two ‘upstairs’ guest bedrooms in the attic - they have some wall but mainly only 2’ high before the roof slope.
Hmmm.

Sounds like a wonderful place to live. I love outside light. When we took out the windows in the dining room and added the French doors opening to the deck we dramatically improved the lighting. Now we need to do the front windows as well.

I know I have given up on understanding chicken breeds. But I am beginning to notice different body types. This is a great body-type picture of the GHE, and so was the picture you posted the other day of Phyllis. Very different body types from Aurora, Maggie or Fat Bird for example.

I'm so happy Maggie is back to her old self for you. I love opinionated hens, and maggie looks like a girl who gets what she wants when she wants it.

Before all the rumors reach this thread, I want to announce that one of my babies passed away at 02:00 pst and I’m extremely upset about it

I'm sooo very sorry you lost one of your little ones. It hurts to loose them even if you've only known them a short while. At least she got to know love and what it was like to be spoiled even for a little while.

I'm sitting here this morning listening to a couple very angry hens voicing their complaints outside. Within the hour the guy should be here to pick up Crybaby. To make it easier to get him last night I took him off the roost and put him in the old dog house I use when I have a momma with babies. There is just 1 teeny tiny problem with that. 3 of my girls have started laying in it. So now I have a line at the entrance of loudly squawking hens. They even snubbed cranberries as a peace offering. Oh well, until the dog house is free I'm in here watching the chicks happily dust bath.

I scrambled some eggs for the bigger birds, and fed them just now. The littles in the brooder are all fast asleep at the moment. (Been a long night, for all of us)
