One more Bite from Old Man Winter

The forecast has gotten worse. The temperature here went from nearly 45°F yesterday to 23°F now. At least the sun is out! We will take that. 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

The ladies came running out of their coop this morning headed straight to the deck. They surely have cabin fever. Today Sansa and Aurora hung back. Phyllis scooted right into the house between my legs. She hung out for quite a while with Mrs BY Bob this morning. She was in so long she left a small present on the carpet. What are you going to do?

All Together Now

Somehow Sansa made her way to the deck to join the rest of the tribe. She just enjoyed some blueberries but not quite with her usual vigor.

These photos are adorable! And so educational.

What a difference in size. What is the age gap?
They are 2 weeks apart. The first group will be 3 weeks this weekend, the 2nd will be 1 week old this weekend. As long as i have them they will get supervised visits together, once they younger ones hit 2 weeks i think they can be together all the time, we'll see.

Strange as we are usually similar though sometimes delayed by a day. Mine is colder and more snow (2 days of snow). But, and I don't say this to make you jealous, way more sun!

Treacle not doing very well in keeping all the hens together.

Cillin having a bad day. He goes up to the sheep shed and talks to Jenny and Solomon the muscovy ducks when he can't get near the hens.

Late afternoon and Treacle has gone to roost minus Fat Bird and Moon. Cillin escorted them up later.

Cillin's bumble foot is improving. The scab has gone and the core is working it's way out slowly. Gloria reckons at least another week until all the crap is out.
I think I lost a week at the begining due to not getting that pad right. I'll try and get some pictures when I re bandage next.
Very good to hear from you and your tribe Shad!
Fantastic news about Cillin’s foot also. He’s so handsome! I have missed seeing Fat Bird and crew.
Helping you pack? 🥺 I’ll read ahead, you have probably explained already...

All 11 of my girls are laying!!!
Daisy, the last hold out laid her first egg since the middle of September. In a way I would have been fine if she never laid another egg. I almost lost her last year to a huge double yolk egg getting stuck. It took 2 days for that thing to pass, and it must have been pressing on a nerve because one minute she was fine, the next she couldn't stand. I thought I was going to loose her to a neurological problem and was sure it was possibly mareks at first. Didn't think of a egg issue as she'd already laid that morning. Kept her isolated inside for 2 days trying to help her walk when the 2nd morning she popped out a monster egg, thought at first it was a triple yolk. After the egg passed she was able although shakily able to stand and it took a week for her to get back to herself. She laid 2 more normal eggs after that and was done. This first egg back of hers, is of course a big one, she lays the largest eggs of any of my hens but i'm going to keep a very close eye on her and pray no more double yolks. Of all the girls who I would be happy to be a non laying free loader its Daisy.
