They are and that’s why it’s sad for me when they do pecking order stuff.
I feel so sorry for Bokky, she pecks at them of course when scratch/food other than theirs is around but sometimes she gets close to them and wants to preen together or something and they run off with memories of her attitude 🥺
I love seeing the 3 of them snuggled, it’s rare I catch it but I know it happens!
3 nights in a row now when ive shut their door they have been roosted together, no one in the nesting boxes and it makes my heart so full 💜
It is not instant friendship with chickens but it does come with time. They will eventually preen and dust bathe together as well. You will be so happy when you see it happen.

Reminiscing over the old days of Bok and Pen. Violet still used to nap at this point so I’d sit out in the sun reading and hanging with the girls 💜
Penny’s butt is so bright when she turns towards the end!

It is a wonderful thing to watch them dustbathing. They are so joyful when they do it. That truly is a beautiful white bum! 🥰 Thanks for sharing the memory.

Where is Phyllis

For those who could not find Phyllis in the photo from the other day. She goes behind the feeder where only her slim body fits.

I was traumatised the first time I saw the pecking order in action. Bessie and Charlie were 19-week old pullets when Lucy flew at Bessie and ripped some feathers out. The pullets had been sleeping in the tractor which was outside the run and Bessie was running up and down the wire crying for her bed. My heart shattered into a million pieces. :hit

I will miss Mr. Bunny, Mrs Bunny, and the baby bunnies. I can't think of any way to allow bunny access and keep them safe. 😢

Umm.....a rabbit hutch? 🐇Since your yard will be even more predator-proof! :D :lau

Chick tax.
A late Mugs Monday....
The reason I moved the wide perch next to the edge, it's where they all wanted to be once they got brave enough to jump there. In the first picture I think that's Peanut and Hazel on the covered perch, and Butters grabbing the edge. Two weeks old.

It's not easy being youngsters, molts & bad hair days every day! Four weeks old.
