Out here I use breeders. Our produce stores rarely carry chicks ~ thank heavens! I would contact somewhere like your 4-H club or poultry breeders association/ club & ask for reputable breeders. They have to be there because people are still breeding show birds to a certain standard & the sub standard ones usually go up for sale but are of a pretty good quality.
I should look into that. I would like to go to a show and see show birds anyway. :love:love

I put her on my lap when I give her her vitamin drink. For the past few evenings she's stayed there until the rest of the tribe have gone to roost.
She tells me when she's ready to join the rest and I carry her up to the coop.
A week or so ago I put her on a perch in the evenings. Ther past few nights she wanted to pick her own spot and I've left her on the floor of the coop. She can manage to jump to the higher perch and settle even with her balance problems.
Last picture is Cillin coming home. If Fat Bird is on the ground he'll escort her up to the coop.

She’s so beautiful Shad. :love How’s her crop?

Elizabeth is back from her expedition. She diverted to Egypt, and as you can see the big ship in the Suez Canal has now been dug free.
Clever Elizabeth!
Not surprisingly she is pretty hungry after her adventure. And in good news her sisters have usefully filled in the big hole she dug by scratching a whole load of stuff into the hole.

You tell the best stories! (Apart from Bob, that is. )

Comb Size

I just read the following sentence in the comb article from 2016 that is featured on the front page. It was kind of a throw away line but it caught my attention. Here it is:

"Usually, birds with the larger combs will be higher in the pecking order rank."

Does anyone believe that comb size has anything to do with pecking order? I am very curious and I am going to try and see if there is any actual research on this when I have a moment (I will add it to my long list of half started projects).

I am seriously asking everyone to look at their tribes and if you know their pecking order, compare it to their comb sizes. I would seriously like to know what you uncover.

For Mugshot Monday some more Ha'penny for Bob. ;)

So lovely. 🥰 I do so love that girl and she has not been getting enough screen time lately.

It's like the writers over there at Ribh's D'Coopage are over fascinated with the new stars. So much so that they are ignoring the established stars and have deemphasized their plot lines.

Actually no! There is an article here somewhere on chicken math, and if I recall correctly, bantams count for 1/2 of a chicken! Hahaha! :lau :gig
This Bantam is one full 100% chicken as far as I’m concerned!
