I have not made any progress on the new coop yet. I have injured my left hand and really hurts to lift anything with it. (Nothing broken) just a sprained two fingers. I thought I was oblivious to pain.. yah right.

Oh, the drama! Minnie was unwell again this morning, but better (not 100%) this evening. She hasn’t laid in a bit, which is worrisome. She’s not even quite 2 yet. Ester is the same age, and not laying, either.

Ruby is swollen in the belly already. Little Mill is a little swollen, too, but I do believe she’s laying, and will give everyone Lily of the Desert Alie Detox tomorrow (in damp feed).

Cashew is favoring a leg, and when I went to check her feet, one foot and leg are noticing warmer than the other side. No visible injury. No swelling. Gently touched both sides all over and no flinching. I think it’s the weight bearing that’s bothering her and assume she got hurt jumping down from the roost.

Dorothy laid a shelled egg (yay).

Ester is (slightly) warming up to me (yay again).

I hope everyone else’s flocks (I know, I know... tribes) are doing well!

Both your Buckeyes - Minnie and Ruby - aren't well??? What's going on? The uncooked rice might have very bad consequences!

When we first started this journey, we had 100 plus birds. We had ducks, turkeys and chickens that free ranges during the day and got locked up at night. We still had a lot in 2018 and early 2019. We are finding it harder to wonder around the property and with me and my issues, I can't go out during the day like I used to. We have between 4-6 orders for our birds in the spring , He doesn't like to talk about the losses, but it comes with the territory.

Hi Grammy.. I hear you on health issues. Both of us have them. Right now I'm trying my hardest to keep up. Husband is worse than me with Alzheimer's and Prostate cancer. I personally need something to do that is enjoyable, and here at home. I am hatching and having a blast. I have friends that I can hatch for. Not sure how many I'll be keeping this winter, will see how things are going. I may become too busy with my husband. Son can help me out with a few here. But..will be fun seeing a few more out there this summer for sure!

I heard that “it’s not the size that matters, but how you use it!” I have no problem either way. My Beethoven-Hen has a beautiful comb, and knows how to use it. I will let my self out, if I can find the door! View attachment 2591207

What a weekend! We're all sick. Doing better since my fever broke. I hurried and got tested on Sat. Came back neg. Good thing, I would have been disappointed in the vaccine. We have two weeks past the last now. My son got real sick.. grandson too, bless his heart, double ear infections. All of us still coughing, husband too. At least we feel up to.. getting up! Now for chicken tax. I will be getting photos later. Haven't gotten any lately. Waiting for it to warm up out there.
