Monday Mugs

A happy memory from the past. Which I just posted on @Ribh thread. Which I just figured out because @rjohns39 does not post on my thread and he posted while I was there. 🤦‍♂️. Well this week is off to a good start.

This is a true story, I was there and I witnessed it...:lau

My ladies got a special treat today, the rest of a mango! Mango is Alintas very favorite.

That’s no good at all. You can give her egg and some vitamins, but as she’s an ISA Brown, I’m worried for her. Someone else may be able to weigh in with more advice but I’m suspecting reproductive issues. You could try worming them and perhaps treating for coccidiosis though. Can you get some amprolium from a pet place?
I'm a little late, but I agree with this. Coccidiosis is the first thing I would treat for, her symptoms sound like what I've gone through with some from my flock. It's also very easy to treat for. I hope she improves soon! :hugs

Hi! I am so not caught up, so I won’t even pretend at it :p I’ve missed everyone’s updates and chat... it’s been kind of crazy around the farm lately, and in the community in general here. Let’s just say the FBook community forum for our island got so crazy/heated that there’s a new “no slander/personal attacks/name calling” one now that’s moderated and you have to actually live here/visit often to join it. And yes, both myself and my little baby goat were subjects of a few of those “attack” posts, from complete strangers!

Weather has been on and off, and I have lost two meat chicks (@ 5weeks old!) to cold snaps. They are now stuck in the barn here for another week, minimum. I’ve started to get my garden in, with seedlings in the greenhouse and cleaning up the overgrown beds at my friend’s farm. I walk Arduinna 3-10 miles a day, so we are getting some serious cardio in during daily chores/commuting. I lost one Red Rock girl to a predator (I’m thinking hawk) but otherwise everyone is doing well and we are looking at doing Roosties foot in the next couple weeks.

@BY Bob I also received the wonderful cards, and love them! Project Camper is also on, I scored free flooring and DH and I finally have some agreement on the short term/long term renovations. More importantly, I will be buckling down and concentrating on what I can do on the house. I’ve made two new island friends (taxidermy and Sauerkraut!) and they had some great suggestions on getting the panels up to the second story without the tractor, which BIL won’t share and recently broke (again). I’m going to blast up some photos in a separate post, but wanted to pop in with an update as well.

@Shadrach i am so sorry to hear of Fat Bird’s troubles, and I know you will do your best by her. :hugs If I’ve missed anyone else’s troubles, I’m sorry and don’t feel slighted, I just haven’t had a chance (is it even possible?) to catch up yet. Much love, and I’ve missed you all!
Thank you for popping in, I've missed you and hearing about all your animals and doings! :thumbsup

You are more then welcome to some fertile eggs too! Anyone interested may have some. ❤
I gave a friend 7 eggs. She bought an incubator for her kids. All 7 eggs are showing veins! I'm excited to see what they look like!
If I lived closer I would take you up on this offer! Your pair are so beautiful! 💗

What were people attacking you about?! :th

That makes it two card deliveries! I was starting to wonder.

I am very sorry about your losses. I know how much you care for them. :hugs :hugs

I am curious about who is monitoring the islands face book forum. That is interesting. I can can't understand why anyone would attack your goat. People are so disappointing.

Is Arduinna on a lease when you walk or is she walking free with you?

It is great to have you back for a moment. I'm sorry I have so many questions. :hugs
The long and short of it, the main forum is completely unmoderated. Unless you directly address one of the two admins publicly, about one of their posts 😉 there have even been some indirect threats on there before. It can get very nasty, very fast. I mostly am there just for the “free stuff” and community info posts (like our whole island is eligible for free Covid Vaccines at the rec center in just two weeks!) but occasionally something gets out of hand and I stick my nose in. Politely, respectfully, and occasionally reporting posts directly to FBook... but unless there’s a direct threat and a named individual as a target it’s basically a free for all.

A rabid nature lover is moving here (with pet bunnies), and was flooding the forum with random environmental propaganda, including a “Barred owls are so awesome” post (all thoroughly researched on you tube and Wikipedia, or environmental activist sites). I merely posted a polite reminder that they are an invasive species which is devastating the local endangered owls and suggested that people wanting to provide “owl houses” etc focus on native species instead. That was attack post #1, which went on for pages and pages of name calling etc, and I should have just gotten off then... some people just can’t have a reasonable discussion, and I can be a bit of a slow learner or just stubborn myself at times.

My biggest mistake though, was a post about Arduinna. Just telling everyone that I walk her between here and there, always leashed in public, and you may see us. I may tie her up to “hound hill” (she loves the dog house there) in front of the store, if I need to run in for milk etc, and you might see/hear her in our truck. We are working on her separation anxiety being an orphan. Especially for the returning Summer residents, Visiting tourists, and people who have high prey drive dogs. Because a goat on a leash isn’t generally something dog owners run into, I thought a heads up could avoid any “unfortunate” dog interactions (I will step in front of an attacking dog, I’ve done it before with both my niece and cats) We are also socializing her to dogs whenever the opportunity arises. I plan on training her to a cart as well (she’s going to be a working goat, as well as a pampered pet!).

Almost everyone loved my post, the pictures of her, etc. One lovely lady who has never met me, and lives on the other side of the island, decided to make an uninformed post saying it’s illegal to take in Feral goats, (it’s not, I checked federal and provincial regulations!) they can’t be “re-herded” with the “wild” ones, and it’s “illegal to keep one,” so I will be “reported to bylaw officers” like another goat owner. We, however are fully zoned agricultural, and land owners, so she can go.... I had learned from the owl post though, and I immediately deleted my response, then everything else on all public forums, and made Andrew do the same regarding her.

Ironically, (though “that thing” isn’t “allowed” at the farm proper) I finally found something the in-laws will support me on. She’s legal, and that person is wrong. Andrew’s comment was, “well, if your last name was Campbell online, she would never have posted that”. We aren’t legally married, (that wasn’t some weird proposal or dig at it on his part, either) and I wouldn’t change my surname to that even if we were! Turns out you can fully block individuals on the Face Book... it’s my newest coping method (for a**h***s and in-laws alike!)

Now I’ve got to go take some chicken tax pics!

This is what happens to Fat Bird.
Mostly normal but feet too close together but tail up and head up.
P3290783.JPG

She can turn her head either way and stay balanced.
P3290784.JPG

Here she's taken a few steps and is reaching fro some grass. Head and tail starting to go down and she wobbles.
P3290795.JPG

She's got the grass, head low and her tail is very low now
P3290796.JPG

Head and tail coming back up.
P3290798.JPG

Head and tail still coming up and about to take a step.
P3290797.JPG

Taken a bit of a step, wobbled and her tail drops.

She fell over. She got up again of her own accord and staggered over to my feet. I picked her up and sat her on my lap for a while. When she wants to be taken to the coop she makes a quiet escort call.
