This will have to do. I had to extend the ramp. I like the ramp bar closing system because there are no half measures with it. You can't shut the coop without the bar securing the ramps.

The ramp folds so there is no way to climb to the coop while it is shut unless the legs are used. This does make it more difficult for anything trying to gain access through the doors.

Both rmap sections open gives just enough room to be able to reach to the back of the coop for cleaning and broody retrieval.

I have under roof vents of all this style of coop. Vents back and front. I will fix in a louvred vent at floor level later. The ramp/doors give more ventilation. I try roughly to provide one tenth of the floor area of ventilation for winter and on the bigger coops, the summer human access door is about 50% mesh.

The bank at the right of the picture prevents the worst of direct wind into the coop. Mostly the wind blows at the back of the coop.

Don't know exactly what the cost is. The coop was re purposed from the ducks. There is only Jenny and Solomon left now and they have enough space in their coop. The legs are dug into the ground which hopefully means the sheep and donkeys wont knock the coop over.
Not sure yet what Cillin thinks about it. For the last couple of nights he's come to the house and I've taken him to his new home. I'll 'encourage' him to go to the coop on his own over the next few days.

I am about 36 hours into this round of eggs hatching in the incubator. 39 made it to lock down and 20 are out. I think i've mentioned in the past that while mom adores my Marans Butter is her heart chicken. Back in the fall she decided that if it took several generations she didn't care she wanted to use Butter as the foundation and try to create a cross with her coloring but with feathered feet. And it had to be a hen too. I fully thought it would take several generations to get a chick of this mix to hatch with Butters color. So when I got the incubator the first 2 rounds besides the Marans eggs I loaded it with Butter eggs as well. Between 2 rounds I set 19 butter eggs, none were fertile. At that point was beginning to wonder if it would be even possible to hatch out a single Butter baby. Momma hen proved it could be done when she hatched Pickles. When I set these eggs I only put 2 of Butters in still doubting her fertility. They developed and made it to lockdown. Both pipped late last night and at 3 am this morning one hatched. My jaw hit the floor, its a yellow/white chick. Now out of the 20 chicks hatched including 7 mixes only 1 does not have feathered feet. Yup, the yellow Butter chick. :he Oh well, its a keeper and I know its possible to get the color mom wants and will keep trying for feathered footed yellow chicks. Here it is when I moved it to the brooder.

Looks like BLU is only having a bad day. Nothing physically wrong, that I can tell. But I’m not a veterinarian.
I really hope that is all it is. Perhaps their is something in your mailbox that might cheer him up? You never know......🤔

Maybe she is getting ready to molt? or, sometimes if they have eaten something that disagrees with their crop that get that way.
Thank you for the thoughts. Molting would be months away for her. I've got my eye on her today. If she does not perk up this afternoon and perhaps even if she does, there will be a complete exam.

It surely looks like it will do a good job. How many would you expect to roost comfortably within it?

So precious. 🥰

Hi Everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely Wednesday! I just wanted to post a short update on the mama hen of eleven. I decided to name her Rosie. Yesterday as I sat on my backyard patio, she and her chicks hung out next to me. I was very surprised with how trusting she was of me and how she didn't seem to mind me being near her baby chicks.

This morning, I went out back to feed the chickens and I saw that Rosie and her chicks were in the backyard again. I think she may have moved into my backyard 🤔 I just wanted to share some photos of Rosie, so you can see the beautiful mama hen of eleven💕

More on Hattie

I wandered over to say hello to her and she stood up. Here is how she stood. Notice the tail down position. She is not feeling well.

I put out some meal worms on the deck to see her reaction. I was pleased that she came over and she did eat some. However as you can see from this picture, she was not willing to mix it up with the rest of the tribe. She is pecking at leftovers after they have moved on.

I hope that Hattie feels better soon! I'm glad that she still has an appetite.
