I assumed he meant they eat a lot? Heavy girls who have to feed their bodies AND consume enough to create eggs?
That is correct.

It's a family joke that I probably have not shared here. My nephew wanted to get chickens and he was researching what kinds he wanted to get to impress his dad. He decided he wanted Orpingtons and told his dad so. He was reading one of the many descriptions of Orpingtons to his dad and they were described as dual purpose birds. He did not understand what that meant. His dad had him list out what chickens are used for and then the light went on. The poor kid had never thought of that use for them. :lau

Sorry, Bob. I hope it turns around quickly. I have a couple who walk heavy... Ruby and Millie. When it’s pronounced, I make them a treat which is feed wetted with warm water and that aloe detox I told you about, plus a few capsules of echinacea goldenseal and olive leaf extract emptied into the mix. Sometimes a drizzle of Nutridrench, too. I’m not sure why, but it seems to help, at least temporarily.

What is Hattie’s laying status? Are her shells thick and strong? Does she eat oyster shell?
I had a random softshelled egg weeks ago. Otherwise nothing but strong hard shells. Everyone is eating oyster shell.

I'm serious. That's cecal poop and urine mainly. You need a sample of 'normal' poop to tell much. If no normal poop is coming out that could indicate a problem. Cecal poop is much the same whether the chicken is healthy or not ime.
I know you are. I will be out trailing her around the yard once I have had my coffee.
