I only have a minute to pop in, it was a beautiful day and we're still outside enjoying the very last moments of it.

There are 15 chickens in this picture. I know they are there and even I can't find them all!! The chooks enjoyed a very lovely 10 hours outside today.

The grass was about 10 inches tall and thick! Rich had to borrow a bigger mower to get it down.

Mama even had the babies out. All 5 are in the picture, see if you can find them.

We cooked dinner on the fire tonight too.

This day could not have ended more beautifully. ❤

I cleaned two butts with a hose and bar shampoo today. It’s a start.

On that same note, the avian vet said hen illnesses are almost always caused by E.Coli ascending from the vent. I might become a neurotic butt cleaner.
I would want to know more about that remark from the vet. The vet doesn't mean by ingestion, do they? So E.Coli travel back through the system from the vent where they've been colonizing from the outside world, or came from where? And they move that way even though they are sort of going upstream against a lot of stuff coming down, so to speak? Can they latch on and then keep moving up? And then what? How does this theory work? It is a cause of egg binding and infection? Coccidiosis, or respiratory illness? As you can tell I want to interrogate and get the scoop on this...sorry

Looks like it was a lovely day!
I am so far behind.. I did not know that you had babies! They are adorable 💕❤️..... what breeds are they.. looks like some EEs maybe?

What fencing system are you using? I've ordered a starter electric fence and am considering a similar "inside fence" for them. I've also got some 2" knotted netting coming to experiment with rigging up aerial protection.
I got the black posts from a company called premier1supplies - they have a lot of farm stuff and so far I have liked their products and dealing with them. I got the charger for my electric fence from them as well as various accessories for the electric fence like insulators and connectors.
I am linking to their website, not because I am promoting them but when I was trying to learn how to do the electric fence I found their site very helpful in understanding how an electric fence works.

The posts are easy to push in - they have a sort of step so you push them in with your foot - and they are easy to move. They have clips that you can use to attach either deer netting or electric wire.
I will use deer netting to contain the chickens and then do an outer fence with a hot wire to deter the foxes.

What a great day!

I went to a local poultry show this morning. And no, I wasn’t tempted into buying more chooks! ;) There were some tatty rescue ISAs but I just couldn’t go there. There was a trio of Cochins and a trio of Pekins that I briefly thought about, but I deliberately didn’t set up my quarantine area so I wouldn’t be tempted. I’m not in the right headspace for new girls at the moment.

But I took lots of photos. There was even a Vorwerks breeding trio!
