I can't think of a predator that takes them with no sign like this. It is very troubling.

A human predator could have. Sadly, I have to keep them all locked up today, because I need to go into town. (They are not too happy about it either)

I have Rocks-Ann, who will come up to me, and if I don’t pick her up and pet her, she’ll squawk and lightly peck me on the leg for my attention. Barred Rocks are crazy cute.

Sansa is almost cuddly but I did not raise her from a youngster so no actual cuddles.

I love both those names. The "pop" is why I named Popcorn that - she was always "popping" up and out of the brooder to greet me, she has a kind of reckless energy and boldness / bravery which remains to this day.

She leads her bestie Butters around in foraging as a pair, and if I see only three Buckeyes and Queenie the Buff Orp together foraging I can be pretty sure it's Popcorn who happens to be off by herself. She has also made herself king of the shovel worms when I garden and strictly enforces that. She will stand over or on the shovel as I (very slowly and carefully) work. She actually lightly or almost hit (flogged?) our cat Big Boy with one wing the other day (and hurt his feelings) when he came over to say hello to me while I was shoveling. Well Big Boy did run up quickly, briefly alarming everyone when they saw him coming from a distance. But they quickly recognized him and he walked the rest of the way to be with the group. Then Popcorn bopped him one. Big Boy tries to get along with the chickens; the look in his eyes was surprise and hurt. I pet him and told Popcorn to be nice to him and lightly pushed her aside a little. But it was understandable 'cause chickens don't like to be surprised, and in case Big Boy thought he was getting any worms Popcorn had to make sure he knew his place

I love that story! Popcorn sounds like the perfect name for your hen. We really loved the name Shortcake, but we decided to go with Poptart because of her personality. She's the most curious and active; every time we put our hand in the brooder she shoots out from under the radiant heater to investigate!

Not sure what's going on. Sick again. If you pray, say one or two for me. I was just in the ER. Trying to wait to get in for my follow up appt. with my Dr. tomorrow. Wish they could figure this out. Why does my potassium keep dropping? Not taking anything like water pills. If this keeps up, I'll be placing chickens. . I can't stand without the woozy/dizzy.

It feels like good news on both Dorothy and Ruby.

Hopefully Minnie will work her way through what is troubling her. I like the idea of sneaking her some food. No I don't have buckeyes on my list of high production ladies but that doesn't mean an individual or two can't develop troubles sadly.

Thanks. Minnie was slightly better this morning. I tuned her wormer in with a concoction of baby bird formula with yogurt and molasses since her crop was still a little puffy.

Sadly, I was mistaken about Ruby. She is swollen and tired. I think her days are numbered and I’m not sure how long to let it go on.
