Something that Bears Watching

I just watched Phyllis lay a softshelled egg. She did not go to a nest but laid it right in front of the side door. She bouncing about her usual self 1 minute and the nest she was spotted, tail down in front of the opening.

3 minutes later, a softshelled egg was on the ground.

Phyllis did look it over for a bit. I wonder what she was thinking.

I have not ever done anything different when someone lays a softshell. There is oyster shell always available to them. They have always been 1 and done around here. They are now on all flock though with no calcium because of Lilly. For now I'm going to keep an eye on her. Her eggs are the only distinctive ones I have. It is 7:00 pm here. I expect that she will skip laying tomorrow. I will watch for her again on Wednesday morning early.

It was just a little disturbing how quickly the tribe pounced on it in order to eat it. Sansa leading the charge.
