I'm going to try to post a few pics. View attachment 2722098My original flock consists of Ruby, my barred rock. She is sort of a loner, often found wandering by herself. She has to be kicked into the coop most nights as she will stay out by herself long after everyone else has roosted. She was always the bravest and sweetest chick. Would come to me out of the brooder. She always has poopy butt and requires alot of baths.
View attachment 2722099Then there is Dottie( the hen on the right)She is a Starlight Green Egger. She's pretty quiet but very lovely. She the most curious about the new babies.
Dixie, a prairie blue bell egger, is my prettiest. I don't think I got a solo picture of her so I will have to get one later. She is in the pic with Dottie in the background. She had a bout with soft shelled eggs this spring but is getting back to normal now. She's quite loud, always talking. View attachment 2722100
Jo Jo, my other starlight green egger. She was always the craziest, I could never catch her as a chick. She once got stuck behind the brooder and I'm pretty sure my neighbors heard her screaming. She is also very loud. She sings the eggsong for everyone all morning. She knows her name and will come to me in the yard when called. I believe she is the bottom hen in the flock. Hazel, the boss. She has always behaved like a rooster. The first to go after the dog or cats if they got too close. I have seen her mount poor Jo Jo several times. She tried to go broody a couple weeks ago but thankfully it only lasted a couple days.
Our little coop. View attachment 2722104 We just doubled the size of our run to accommodate the newbies. We expanded on the back.
The babies. They are growing like weeds, hatched May 19. I ordered them from Mt. Healthy Hatchery and I got them on the 20th in the morning. They are all doing wonderful with the exception of my barnevelder. She has had problems from the start. Pasty butt and now constipation. I put probiotics in the water but she still suffers. She is easily half the size of the others. I hope she makes it. Any advice on this is appreciated. We are now brainstorming on how to introduce them. We have brought them out in the play pen a few times. The older hens are curious, no aggression or pecking yet. They seem to be most interested in what they are eating. Thanks for sharing! Your flock is lovely. My Prairie Bluebell Egger looks like yours and is crazy loud with her eggsong. 😆
The coop and run look great!
No advice on integration of the babies as I haven't done that, but lots of experience from others here...will be interesting to hear how yours goes!

Just adorable! Your coop is so lovely, I wish I had more land to build something like most you guys on here have.
Your ladies are lovely 🥰

What a lovely tribe you have. Great photos. Thanks for sharing them.

I have never dealt with constipation in a hen but probiotics seem like the way to go. I also worry about hydration. I wonder if she is not drinking enough for some reason. Do you put any supplements in their water other than probiotics?

I’ve been waiting to come across this post; I saw hints of on Ribh’s and MJ’s threads. I’m currently more than 100 pages behind but determined to catch up. I can ask my frizzle breeder friend if there is anything you should know about the breed.
Thanks I would greatly appreciate it. And yes, @Ribh spoiled the beans first. 🤭

So my plan a few weeks ago to reduce numbers so I would have room for the 5 or 6 blue marans hens was a good one it seems. Because it also opened up space for a couple of the chicks hatched this spring to be keepers that I wasn't planning on keeping. I knew I also had to make room for Squirrel and Creamy, Butter's daughters. Then my dad picks out the blue chick to stay. Along with Creamy there are 2 black mix pullets that hatched the same time. Was going to grow them out a bit more and possibly rehome them when they got closer to laying. That plan has been thrown out the window now. They are both Henrietta daughters, and one Remi has earned her spot to stay. In the last 2 weeks since she has earned free range privileges. She's not a lap chicken, she's a parrot. Does not matter if it is me, mom or Rosie she spots outside she comes running and flies up on your back or shoulder to perch. The other day she was on my shoulder the entire time I cleaned one stall. She also enjoys riding in the wheelbarrow when your moving sawdust around. Her sister Pumpkin, is also staying, but she is technically not mine. My next door neighbor Maddy has claimed her, and has also started helping with chicken chores. She has some chickens at her papaws I gave her but also wants one here that she can see daily. I can't say no since every time she spots me outside she's right there offering to help clean out the run or feed and collect eggs. Pumpkin who she named also seems to be bonding with her as Maddy is all the time snuggling her and sneaking her special treats. When the Blue girls arrive I'm also going to let her choose one of them as hers as well. It's also hard to believe that in under 3 weeks they will be here. I get them as soon as my sawdust guy's chicks arrive which is scheduled sometime the first week of July.
This is Remi, I have to get a picture soon of Pumpkin, but she looks just like her except she doesn't have as dark a comb. Remi is hard to photograph as when she is not on me, she is darting all over the place.

You could ask the breeder, “Is every day, a bad hair day for a Frizzle?”:gig
