When we had our recent heat wave, mine did not eat in the hottest part of the day all on their own. The drug holes and laid in them. They would get up and drink and groom but no real eating during the middle of the day. They ate in the morning and at dusk. (And Hattie would eat at night)
What are these drug holes you speak of?🤭

Update on Flowers 💐

For those that are interested some updates on my flowers as we come out of the heat wave.

Black-eyed Susan
First the Black-eyed Susan. As you all remember, Mrs BY Bob weeded out all of my Black-eyed Susan. I replanted them and they are flowering but they are 1/2 the size they should be.

Daisy's Daisies
I have commented here before on my struggles getting Daisy’s Daisies to stick and grow as the girls tend to dig them up. Last year I planted new Daisies that I had to order by mail. This day in 2020 I got my first blossom.

Check them out this year! I think I found my Daisies!

Volunteer Sun Flower
Somehow this sunflower found hold and is growing up in front of the coop. I think it's adorable. Perhaps I should plant some next year!

And since it's Friday, my flower hen and her bestie providing us with some fluffy bums next to my new sunflower!

Sunflowers are so joyful!

Gorgeous. The Susans will survive. They are tough. Mine aren’t flowering yet.
I have a profusion of daisies. Just dm me if you want me to collect some seed for you.
Below are a couple of ancient pictures from the BC era (before chickens) but they give a sense of what I mean by profusion of daisies!

Maggie on safari
Maggie is big game hunting. She is determined to score ‘the big five’ (worm, beetle, moth, spider and grub).

Here she is hiding out so she can observe for game.

Shhh. She may have spotted something.

Yes. She is locked on her target.

And with one (not very graceful) leap she has bagged her first trophy.

Congratulations Maggie ‘Big Game Hunter’!

I love chillin with my chickens! :lau
They always fire up my imagination and sense of humour. Chickens genuinely are an excellent antidote for the contemporary working lifestyle, with it's endless demands and frightening challenges.

Having never moved from Adelaide where the temps are high and the humidity low, when I started travelling around for work, I was appalled by an English summer of temps I would shrug off at home (around 30C) with high humidity. I was very surprised! I was so grateful for the desk fan provided by the hotel.

Side story: I prefer to stay in family run hotels in quaint old buildings near the centre of town whenever I'm in the UK. I'm sure the bigger hotels are fully air-conditioned, but they don't remember me from one trip to the next.
Have you stayed at St. Ermin? Beautiful...private owned...spy history...and a/c!!
