I’ve lost three adults and a chick. All three adults were really hard.
And it’s REALLY not looking good for Ruby today. I had to crawl under hubby's truck to retrieve her and bring her home. It’s about 1/3 of the way from my neighbor’s tree (where they hung out most of the day) and the coop. I put her on her shelf with fresh bedding and rigged up a towel sling over her, since she’s parked under Dorothy’s roosting spot and I don’t want her getting pooped on.
We love you Ruby. :hugs Know you are loved near and far and you are an amazing fighter with a drive that few have.

This applies to you too, sweet Michelle. :hugs

What a sensible outcome!
I'm glad this was the outcome! :clap

As a side rant..
The whole no-rooster ordinance so many places have boggles me...my chickens are loud!
All.day.long.
They do egg/escort songs as early as 5 am. It can be a relay race between all 7 of them until mid afternoon some days.
But a rooster is too noisy? 🤯😆😆

Ftr...my town does allow roosters.
Also ftr... my neighbors have shared that they like hearing the chickens (I'm so grateful). Even still, we ply them with eggs as thanks for tolerance

Chicken care while out of town?

Wondering what arrangements you make when you are out of town for your flocks.

My gf has a dog care business, so the pups are accounted for. But for some reason chicken sitting isn't a big thing here 😂
I've arranged for the neighbor girl to care for them (with the help of her parents...who are excited to have that connection of where food comes from). This will be for less than 1 week.

Wondering what you all do with your flocks...

I used to have my niece care for them until I saw on the cameras that she was not filling their water and had to have someone else run over the house and give them water.

So now we have a friend that got chickens because of ours who comes over and takes care of them for us.

When Sydney was a new Mum @CrazyChookChookLady came down and checked on them for me as she had experience with Mums and chicks.

i am fortunate enough to have a neighbor who has a small homestead going on over there with ducks, geese and goats, etc., and she chicken-sits.
Before her I found a woman through Rover.com.
