Not that I'm keeping track or anything, I would never do that.

She should start laying around Feb 2, 2022. In the depth of winter. I suppose that will force me to wait even longer.

The Buckeyes, a year old now (July 6th 2020). began laying Jan 2 2021, as I recall, seven months. Middle of winter meant nothing to them apparently!

Speaking of blue eggs… I can’t believe I keep forgetting to share this. So my cream legbar lays blue eggs. They’re actually getting to be pretty decent sized eggs. However they do appear white on the inside. It looks like the color is added at the end, just like with brown egg layers. They’re also starting to fade, like I have seen in some of my brown egg layers.
My Easter Egger, on the other hand, lays a slightly greenish blue egg. They are smaller, but the color runs throughout the entire shell inside and out. Any thoughts on this? I thought all blue eggshells had the color throughout. Nope. Does that make Flash a fake Legbar?

I will double check but I am pretty sure the roadrunner eggs are white on the inside.

Misadventures of the new coop

Apparently hubby didn't close up the chicken yard gate today while I was at the gym.
When I got home he and the youngest rushed over to tell me how ALL SEVEN of the girls got out and walked the perimeter of the rest of the yard exploring... eating grass and the hedge they have been eyeing bc they loved destroying the portion of it enclosed in their yard.

I may have to watch the security cameras

Everyone is safe and sound.

Early on this happened many times to Mrs BYBob. She is a master at corralling them now. He will get better.

My sick chick is doing better. Once she recovers I will treat you all to a naming ceremony.

Does she still stand quite upright? Was your concern she might be a boy, or was the upright stance concerning for other reasons?

Phyllis is Segregated

I have split the coop. This should at least protect the nest for when I can't be there. I am hopeful that I will be able to monitor while she takes breaks and release her to the outside. If not, she has food and water and I will be able to add a dustbathing solution.

Hopefully this will work for 3 weeks.

Phyllis has deserved her own Special Suite, with her own Room Service Attendant / Reluctant Rooster too. Soon she is going to get her own Phyllis Club she can be in charge of. How exciting!

I have not read all the posts since my last visit.
I have read enough to get the impression that you may have some new chickens @BY Bob (?)

Thanks Shad. You almost got it.

I have more on the way. Phyllis is broody and I am going to give her chicks to raise. It's been a challenge to keep her safe from the rest of the tribe but we are working it out.

Hopefully she stays broody until the chicks arrive. If not I guess I'm raising them.

We shall see.

I expect they are tougher than Polish. I guess we will see though.
