"Excuse me, that's my hole!" Brenna looking on knows better. Melon plants in background.

"Grass"

To be green it must be watered and only things I plant are getting watered, or those nearby or in between. Pumpkin, mystery plant (maybe zucchini) and little watermelons I dont think you can see.

I'm sorry you still have idiots shooting off fireworks. Thankfully after 3 nights in a row have not had anyone else set any off. I also wish I could send some of the rain we've had your way. It has rained almost every day the past week, I'm currently fighting a loosing battle keeping the chicken coop dry. Same with the stalls, the ground is so saturated that the boy's pee spots are not absorbing like normal. Sadly for me and my nose that means its one of those few times I can actually smell their pee when I clean their stalls every evening.
Sorry for your fight, I would gladly take any rain you send down here!! 🥵🔥

I took a few overview photos after weedwacking this morning
Looking towards the house on the left is winter squash that is massive (actually 5 plants) the right is the area that is actually supposed to be grass. Starting at the bottom or far right the green stuff is crocosima, lemon balm, lilac, dead stuff in pots assorted flowers and a blueberry.

From the other direction
Here we add in weeds, a fruit tree and alfalfa.

I’m thinking of buying one of these with the little tax money I’m getting, opinions? My feeder is outside the coop most times, thought it would help when it rains (so I don’t have to shift it into the cubby where they kick shavings into it, because the feed wouldn’t get damp) and maybe the wild birds may take 2 days to work it out 😂(but will the girls work it out?) It is clear on that side in the pic to show how it works I believe, and yes, it is a proper seller this time 😅 an Aussie company so trying to support ‘local’ 🤷🏻‍♀️

it seems a long way to have to stick their head in? My only apprehension...
Tell me your thoughts, chook brain trust 😁
Hmmm since you want this to be an outside feeder, and I presume they are vulnerable outside to predators, how are they going to be able to see and watch out when they eat with this? I see a lot of setups online using this type of feeder, but it is placed in a secure area usually inside a run or inside a large enough coop.

You might try building or cobbing together something to protect your feeder from the rain. I have a regular round trough-style feeder (actually their chick feeder) that I set up on a block in the big run. The welded wire run is open on the sides to the elements now with the winter tarps off (I added a shade tarp under the overhead rain/snow tarp). Rain comes in the sides and soaked the feeder one day. So I took a cat litter box cover, and attached it up in the air to the welded wire with a tiny bungee cord through the holes for the handle, and it sits on the block. I put a small board under the feeder because of the shape of the top, so it could sit as far back as possible. The box of the litter top provides three protected sides to the feeder, and is facing away from the general direction of the wind and rain. It works pretty well, not perfectly when it's terrible swirling wind and rain, but mostly does the job. If you want a picture I'll get one.

I think we are up to a dozen fires in Oregon now. No rain anywhere in site for us. I will have to take a pic of all that green grass you admired so much Bob!
2 of my daughters are still in Or.
one in Grants Pass, it gets very hot there, we moved away from there 26 years ago
