A Celebration of Hattie. (The Chick Days)

Hattie turned 3 on July 17. 🎊🎉🥂🍾

I wanted to really celebrate her this year. She is a treasured
member of the tribe. The real rock for everyone to rely upon. The big girl with the little voice and kindness for all (except that one time with Aurora). She spends her days on sentinel duty watching out for all.

What follows is a series of photos charting our three years together.

This first series covers her time as a chick.

Happy Birthday Hattie! ❤️ 💕 🎂

That flying off the perch shot is really cool.

I did end up using the hair dryer on her for a few minutes to get her dry, she loved it. She is rewrapped up in the towel sitting on the heating pad in my lap. If we go by the happy chirping and trills she's doing she'll be just fine. Before I put her back out to rejoin her momma and siblings at bedtime I'm going to make sure she gets some save-a-chick water down her just in case.
I am so glad to hear that. Great Job! :hugs :thumbsup

But the Australian variant.
That's right. They can have a tail here.

Here is a pic from the Open Poultry Standards for Australian Araucanas.
This is NOT Alice.

Current situation sitting here with a half drowned silkie wrapped in a towel drying off on a heating pad. I think I found her in time, but she'd gotten in a 5 gallon bucket somehow that had 3 inches of rainwater from the last few days. I swear these silkies try to find ways to kill themselves.

How is she today Rebecca? No worse for wear I hope?

So the feeder came with a free little gift 🙂
The girls are unsure, did a few inspection pecks then hoofed it into the cubby because it started to rain again. I’ll watch them over the course of the day to see if they figure it out 🤭

Exciting stuff! I'll be interested to hear how they take to it and how well it works to keep food dry and fresh.

Okay, today I’m cutting back on the treats for the chickens. No steak today. And Emily won’t be getting her morning hotdog 🌭 but they have a grapevine to ravage (and they do) !
They will have watermelon, ears of corn 🌽, and meally worms. Probably some pasta later today, (because I’m making it for lunch) I put fresh feed out for them and a bowl of safflower seeds mixed with black oil sunflower seeds.
(A can of fancy albacore might be too much today)
You call that cutting back :plbb

Thank goodness you found her in time.
