Today the pullets and I ended up doing a few danger drills today. The first one was triggered by a dove flying onto the bird feeder. The second was when I yawned loudly. They scrambled under the chairs or inside the box. While not a real danger, I'm glad they got some practice running for cover.

I’m still waiting for the final verdict. They aren’t all in yet. Waiting on Jaffar, Xzit, Shenandoah, and Emily to get to the coop. I will advise.

Update: she’s up on her perch. It’s eight feet high. And if she can do that, then she’s doing okay ! Yes I have a stage of ramps that they use. FYI

I got the treat of seeing their preening gland.

I have not been getting many eggs. Quite often I will hear the escort call and when I go expectantly out to the nest box I am disappointed.

Edwina has been doing a lot of calling in the last few weeks but no brown eggs have appeared.

Today I was in the garden and saw Edwina stalking purposefully down the path calling but she wasn't coming from the direction of the coop.

I know, it's obvious in hindsight. I got youngest to look under their favourite bush.

I feel such a fool

There are now 4 fake eggs in the nest boxes.

Wow! Mine are such fussy girls, they wouldn’t lay anywhere except their nests because I’m guessing they’d find it dirty. Such snobs I own.
