I will be adding this chickens meal here and in MJ's thread.

I couldn't get the battery hens interested in eating a little egg and eggs stick to my my pans for days. So I came up with this solution and all the girls are loving it

A bowl over a pan of water, beating the eggs with a little filtered water kale. Beat and stir until cooked.

Then soak layers feed into filtered water that's when I added minerals and calcium power before emptying a capsule of charcoal into the mix, followed by mixing in the cooked eggs into the layers food

Wow. Hope they like it!
On the pan sticking issue - I save those cardboard containers that coffee and other drinks come In - or sometimes food, milk, juice etc. Rather than toss them out I give them one more ‘use’ by cooking eggs for the chickens in them.
I add veggies and calcium powder and then pop them in the microwave for a couple of
minutes.
Makes me feel good that they aren’t single use and saves any clean up effort.

I've purchased a few plants call wormwood. Apparently this helps too kill of some species of worms and my girls love to pack on it

Wormwood is Artemisia absinthium - it is bitter and used as a flavoring in absinthe. It is mildly toxic and repels bugs like fleas and lice (a few leaves in the nest boxes would be a good idea maybe?).
In the middle ages it was believed to be a preventative against intestinal worms and there has been at least one academic study that shows it as effective against tapeworms in dogs (as effective as commercial anti-worm medications).
I am thinking of planting some around the Chicken Palace in the spring.
I have some wormwood growing around the run for just this reason. It died back over winter but one of the plants is putting out new shoots now.

I have not been getting many eggs. Quite often I will hear the escort call and when I go expectantly out to the nest box I am disappointed.

Edwina has been doing a lot of calling in the last few weeks but no brown eggs have appeared.

Today I was in the garden and saw Edwina stalking purposefully down the path calling but she wasn't coming from the direction of the coop.

I know, it's obvious in hindsight. I got youngest to look under their favourite bush.

I feel such a fool 🤦‍♀️

There are now 4 fake eggs in the nest boxes.
I am pleased to say that the fake eggs worked. No more searching under bushes in the backyard!
Today everyone laid an egg in the nest box. The two cream ones on the left are fake.
