Oh I am jealous. I get loads of wild turkeys but have never seen a poult.
13! Wow.
🥰
Yes! Poor momma - I can't imaging trying to keep them all together and safe...but at the end of the summer, there were still 13 trailing along behind her when she went through our yard (almost daily!) That was a year ago. Seems they had few hatch this spring. Largest 'flock' of littles this year that I saw was 3. One momma must have had to try twice, as she has a :)(only 1) youngster NOW that is considerably smaller than her (most juvies by now are close to adult size here.)

Wow, thank you!!🧑‍🏫

I just might take you up on the offer of shoots next season.🤔 (I will have to look into how they are classified in MA) So, does it aggressively multiply/spread, or more like Lilacs, where if you keep around it mowed, it stays in check? (i.e. rhizome spread, pea seed spread, or both, and lightly or aggressively?)

I wouldn't say we are 'wet', but we are definitely not dry, and due to bedrock on this downslope of the mountain, water runs pretty close to the surface. (We literally have an underground stream under our foundation, and when the house was built (way before us & modern codes!), They ran a drainage line around house and right into the street sewer(water) collection system. There is water constantly running into that...even when we were considered in a 'drought' this summer, there was still water running into the sewer drain constantly.
Mostly seeds, starts with a deep root (Like a tap root). Trims well, young shoots mow easily. I've even used loppers on the bigger branches easily. sounds like would do fine. makes a good hedge or a round single bush. seeds more inclined to sprout than spread through runners.

My husband bought me a new bike yesterday, and we’re going for a bike ride with our daughter this morning. Since we’re not leaving for an hour, there is time to sit with the chickens with a cuppa coffee while everyone else is sleeping. It’s still a little early to get them them up, but I can do it soon. I’ll probably post a video. Sorry if I’m being obnoxious this morning and hogging up the thread! Lol!
I loved this mornings exchange. I do not interact with others live often enough.

What a shame. The video is "Legs" by ZZ Top". I thought it was apt for that picture :)

We have the same problem here even with Netflix, I've wanted to see a film filmed in UK in 2016
"Bob the Street Cat" it's shown in America but not in UK. Probably UK sold the rights, it's spiteful as it's a UK true story. I've read the book and really enjoyed it :)
That is one of my favorite books. So heart warming. ❤

Both so lovely!:pop:love

I have been thinking that - their shape - and you said it in this post, LOL! Instead of a huge floppy comb, a huge, fluffy top knot!

And there is Sydney..she looks like she is a bit jealous: "hey, how come she gets all the photographic attention...I have a lovely striped suit, you know!:love
Everyone who comes over is charmed by Phyllis but they all say that Sydney is the best looking of my hens. That red comb and wattles with those wonderful black white stripes is the pinnacle of what people think chicken should look like.

The new littles has destroyed the plastic.

What more they have taught the old girls bad habits of tapping plastic to get rain water, amber's doing it all day even though it's dry I think she likes the sounds she's making (rolling eyes emoji needed)
There are great plastic clear tarps (they have threads running through them for reinforcement) that are very strong and would withstand that - especially if you put it on the outside of their run (so wire mesh between them and tarp - reduces to some degree the impact and effectiveness of pecking)
Just because. 4-minute video of nothing in particular. Just my lovelies on a Friday after work. ❤️❤️❤️

If you watch @micstrachan 's video, I believe this is what she uses. It looks white initially, but for a short period she gets close up and you can see it is clear with completely encased reinforcing threads. I don't know if you have access to amazon there, but here is a link through amazon for them:

Well I think the lump I broke up in her crop was real and the long grass I pulled out of the other end.
So maybe not just molt.
I am going to try and weigh her again today.
Ultimate chicken mom! :bow (Pulling the long grass from the 'other' end:sick) Only a truly dedicated mom (or Dad, sorry @ BY Bob) does those kind of things without giving it a second though...'cause it needs to be done!

Wow. That is something. Mrs BY Bob lived in a house as a child that had a dirt floor basement with an exposed stream running through it. I thought that was crazy.
