Sansa's Molt

Sansa has been molting since before 9/7/21 as documented in this post.

That has he molt s over 60 days now. I am getting concerned. I have never had one last this long. Plus is seems her old feathers have fallen apart but not out. Bald patches would make more sense. Look closely at these photos.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I am getting very concerned that something is wrong.

Platina has these too, feathers with fibers only on the tip. Although it looks like she's molting out of them. I wonder if these feathers inform nutrition. I cannot make a direct conclusion, but just to be safe I'd check thiamine levels in what has been eaten. Of course, in my case medicated feed was blocking the Thiamine.

Believe it or not, there are ten chooks under this porch (Cold outside, so they are just hanging out) B16CBAE9-FD7E-4784-A240-C644F5FFA8FE.jpeg

I did a training with Daisy, the greatest hen ever, for my animal behavioral science course where I taught her that the meal worms were always under the blue cup. No matter how many other cups I gave her to choose from, she always pecked the blue one.

Sadly I lost those videos, along with one of her laying an egg, when I dropped my previous tablet to the cement floor in the basement and it folded in half.
The ☹️ was for the tablet mishap.
But that’s so cool you taught Daisy that, love it!
