I think shock is a big stress on the system, esp for chickens. She has Phyllis there, notice the roost position Phyllis has taken? It may be a comfort. I don't recall seeing that before.

I wonder if there's something in their body chemistry that makes adolescent chickens more susceptible to death by shock? It seems more often, that adult hens recover from dangerous experiences.

I found Jaffar that day after the stray dog attack. He came out of it, but wasn’t himself for several days. But he did save all his ladies! He’s an older guy (tough little guy too)
