I sure hope you are correct. It surely is something to watch.

Watching 3 week old Storm lurk in the bushes or loiter around Silver and Pear was heart rending. She tried to stay near them partly because the others (as teens) would chase her off. Sometimes she had to stay by herself (or with Thing, also on the fringe) while the rest went too far from shelter for her to feel secure. Now that she's close to the same size (I saw a hint of adult look about her last night), she's usually with the big group, still on edges, still in deeper shelter, still giving way. Distance between is 3 feet, sometimes closer. The rest don't chase her off, just take a couple of steps toward her while she evades.

Thing was out sunbathing/dustbathing in the chilly wind yesterday. My parents dropped in for a short visit, and Dad hadn't seen the littlest before (or at least since Storm hatched). Took him out to see Thing and had to look for her as she wasn't in the coop or under the olive trees. Twirp charmed him. Came right up to check him out. He's the one responsible for my birdwatching. He's also an avid bird hunter and still thinks Storm is a likely hawk target. I'm glad she's still growing.

They keep spreading the lava rock (I'm going to wind up with a rock pile (not like Alex) just to be able to use the steps)

Those steps are amazing. I love that landscape. Them you fill it with beautiful chickens. Just beautiful.

The chickens are gorgeous but I also really love the steps!

She is very pretty which is why I forgive her for pecking me.
We have developed some kind of weirdly abusive relationship where she flies up to sit next to me, squats when I pet her back, and then turns around and pecks me.

I believe that it is a pecking order peck. She likes you a a companion but don't get to full of yourself. You are below her in the order.
