I also had Roxanne L'oeuf and Stanley Stallion Chicken; Roxanne turned out to be a Rocky - but he was so used to Roxanne it stuck. Both were killed by a fox one evening which broke my heart. And meant the end of my chicklet roaming.... At that time I then only had the 3 McNugget triplets left.

Then I ended up with the Chick-fil-A foursome, followed by my cousin's Golden Girls (Blanche, Sophia, and old Penelope Cruz).

All this since last April 2021 ! Seems so long ago now

Of course four more chicklets hatched here this Autumn (Rose and Dorothy to complete the Golden Girls, and two roosterlets - Thang1 and Thang2) and before I knew it I have 14 sqwaking clucks here!!!!

The 2 Thangs will have to go unfortunately, apparently u can't geld chickens like you can male horses..... I will likely process them as the thought of them going somewhere being mistreated and then inhumanely killed for meat would haunt me....

To think this time last year the horses and I were bored with nothing to entertain us.... 😆

I'm glad I can help feed your distractions! 😆
I thinks it's more addiction than distraction today...

Seems I am am singularly unmotivated to get work done. And it's cold in the office today, there is a stiff northwest wind blowing whipping up snow squalls here, this building is drafty!

Thus I am catching myself alternating between the barn cams and BYC hahahaha 🤣.

Only 2 more hrs to go...

Here’s a question for you @Shadrach, with Henry and Matilda do you notice any sheen in their black feathers?
Belle’s heart shaped black spots shine green but Snows have always been matte. Just wondered if your light Sussexes are the same or maybe I’m missing a subtlety in her feathers 🤷🏻‍♀️
I've had a look. Matilda's dark feather are mainly matte black but her tail feathers haven't finished growing yet.
Henry has some tail feathers with the green sheen in with the matte ones.
Neither have green sheen in their hackle feathers.

Chicken poop... Marginally better than racoon poop... Okay way better. But still gross when on you eggs.

My chicks ( now a couple of months old) refuse to roost I need the new roost I put in for them. My little Rose roosts on the edge of one of the nest boxes and poops on any eggs on there...

Last night I grabbed the poopy egg - a huge one from Sophia- and went to wash the doodoo off it, but silly me left my glove on the hand holding the egg... It sure is slippery with cotton gloves on, which is why it ended up splattered on the barn floor, Boohoo!!!! Third one that week, duh!

This weekend chickie-loos are going to learn about roosting!!!! Maybe eggs will survive my ministrations then 🐣

There she is roosting on the edge of the nest box... It can't be comfortable.
Don't wash your eggs! The eggs have a bloom on them that the hen applies after the spray shop has finished applying the colour. This bloom helps to keep bacteria out and also helps to keep them fresh.
Don't put then in the fridge either if you are going to eat them. They taste better when kept at room temperature I'm told although I can't tell the difference.
Next thing to do is to adjust the nest box or roost bar so roosting hens don't poop in the nest.

Thanks for checking! ☺️
Sounds similar to Snow then, maybe Henry has a few green in his tail being a rooster and all.

I've saw pictures floating around facebook of chickens in Christmas Hats. I wanted a picture of Branch and Poppy in a Santa Hat. Next time, I think the smart thing will be to photoshop on a hat. They were great sports about the whole thing although Poppy wanted to eat the tree and both immediately tried to shake off the hat every time it was placed on their heads.
