Untrue here. Here they sing all winter long.

They have been deathly quiet (essentially absent) since a hawk killed my pullet Sylvie. At least 1 Cooper's Hawk is hunting the birds (including chickens) in my yard.
Oh dear - yep Cooper's are very adept at arboreal hunting. Have seen then take a Mourning Dove.

They r my fear here too, I want to put a covered run up in the Spring. One of those hoop coop contraption I am researching netting. I have heavy snow load here though...

Maybe you could cut each large pellet in half? Then you could even have twice as much feed.🤔
Oh, yes.. I can see it now. 🙄 She selects one pellet, places it carefully in a pill cutter...and presto! 2 pellets for the price of one! Then, select, cut, repeat...select, cut repeat...for a whole 40# bag.:lau:lau:lau:lau

No No and No to that method. I was bringing in a coffee cupfull into the house though and putting it in the blender for about 5 seconds. My pretty little Liar needs that calcium if she is ever going to lay that egg. No egg again for her today, tomorrow I'm playing fleetwood mac.
