Bob has had a lot of hawk trouble lately, hence my response.Well to be fair they also have to eat.... (Tho glad my hen wasn't taken!)
I think winter has more to do with song birds singing. I live in predator central here and right now they don't sing.If only.
I really miss the sound of the song birds. The quiet is disturbing.
Yes he has, I understand his concern, and with my missing hen today, and my thinking a hawk, owl or eagle took her.... Well I can well understand his stress.Bob has had a lot of hawk trouble lately, hence my response.
Hahaha you just tempted the FatesI don’t want to jinx myself, but none of my hens has ever gone broody.
(Me knocking on wood).
To be honest I did not either until I went to tractor supply. I was actually going to see if they had their layer feed in crumbles when I stumbled upon the smaller pellets. Now that I have everyone used to pellets I really did not want to resort back to crumbles for everybody but I would for Poppy. I have no doubt everyone would eat the crumbles because when I have chick starter out everyone thinks they are chicks again and try to steal their food.I didn’t know there were different sizes!
Ha! Oh yes the next broody is gonna be baaaad!Hahaha you just tempted the Fates![]()
Do not even say that out loud anywhere near your girls...or think it for that matter. They will take it as a challenge. Out of all my adult hens not counting the new girls that started laying this fall I have only 2 that has not went broody at least once. Daisy and Butter have yet to be bitten by the broody bug. That being said though Butter was gearing up to it when she had her accident so I will not be surprised if she tries this spring.I don’t want to jinx myself, but none of my hens has ever gone broody.

Untrue here. Here they sing all winter long.I think winter has more to do with song birds singing. I live in predator central here and right now they don't sing.
Soon though the chicadees will start their mating song
Right now here the great horned owl is starting nesting (they are hooting up a storm here).
So don't worry the birds will start to sing again in a few months![]()
Mine will eat Chick Starter over any other feed.To be honest I did not either until I went to tractor supply.
