No she used to being held, and I have never felt her shivering before. She is a big suck and more so right now as I think she is starting to get ready to lay. That small egg I found in the alleyway yesterday I wonder if it were her that dropped it.

When I felt her shivering at first I thought maybe she had injury! I checked her feet etc but she was fine, no injuries.

I was just checking out those Sweeter heaters, might get one - just need to talk myself into the cost of it $269!
I don't know what a sweeter heater is. Can you share a link.?

It sure is nippy here it's -26c (-15F), inside the barn it is around -15c (20F). I was holding my 15 week old pullet Dorothy and noted she was just shivering all the chicks have completed their first adolescent molt and their feathers are pretty much all in.

I am worried that it's too cold for these kiddos, anyone have any suggestions to help them warm up? I am thinking of getting an infrared heater at the hardware store, I hate using heating equipment in the barn but worry about cold stress with the gang.

My two broody silkies are in their nest box and I put my cozy hen heater panel in front of the nest box for them, so I am thinking they are ok.

Any thoughts?
Honestly I can't even imagine that cold!
All the wisdom on BYC says they will be fine as long as they are dry and out of the wind. But shivering isn't a great sign that they are doing OK. Is it just Dorothy? Maybe you bring her and a friend into a garage? Or if it is more I think I would give them some heat just for the worst of it.
Sorry, I am really just thinking aloud for my own situation with Dotty with no feathers and I have put an oil filled radiator into the Chicken Palace for tonight when we go down to about 4F (which I realize must sound balmy to you!).

This is what I got yesterday which is under $100.

I think it is pretty safe but I have it positioned so they can't get on top of it in case they burn themselves or topple it over but they can hang out in front of it and I have it near where the Roadrunners roosted last night so would definitely give them some heat.

This is what I do. I have an oil filled radiator that is on the storage side of the coop to keep it away from the bedding.
Early on in my chicken keeping journey, I read a Canadian standard of care that suggested that the coop be kept between 0C to -10C, so that's what I aim for and it has worked well.
