Thanks for the update on the Giant Land Chickens Kris. I was wondering how they were going.

I remember Gus trying to get in the caravan coop and causing you grief. I'm so glad he didn't go to auction but went home with someone who appreciates him.

Such a pity about you and the in-laws not being on the same page with animal husbandry. Actually, it's a pity about the in-laws all around.....

Sorry. The laugh was for the memory og Gus getting into the caravan. If I remember rightly Kris had to escape upwards.
I know nothing about giant land chickens but I do think Gus is a looker!

Dotty’s mugshot for Monday.

These next two shots are out of focus (photographing Dotty is difficult if you don’t want to lose your fingers) but they show what a mess she is still in. This is on the day she got sopping wet and of course then it was below freezing at night. She is definitely eating - you can see her crop bulge - and I could see some new feathers coming in.

Construction done

The Construction project is done. Here is the new dining room floor. I need to redo all the trim but the floor is in.

The first 2 are my black sex-link ( BR dad and not sure of mom)
These next 2 are of her 'twin' Raven, Part Marans & part Lavender Orpington (my neighbor's fertile egg, so not related!)

Raven's has the big, gorgeous brown eyes, and a slight flop to the back of her comb, otherwise they look identical! However, Raven will follow me everywhere - especially into the barn where there might be treats. You can see in the last picture that she hopped up next to the metal feed can while I was replenishing their feeders.

Your Raven and my Raven are twins. My Raven is a Marans x Easter egger x Wyandotte mix.

It's snowing again...giving atm a light powdery dusting over a slick layer of ice (from the small amount of snow that melted into pathways yesterday...then froze) I almost went on my kiester this morning with am chicken chores!

What color egg does your Raven lay? My girl really took after the Marans side of her genetics and lays a dark brown egg.

That snow on top of ice thing is what I was dealing with. It is scary stuff. Fortunately mine is all gone now.

Edited: new weather advisory for this morning - freezing rain with ice accumulation followed by snow. Ugh. It’s back!

What color egg does your Raven lay? My girl really took after the Marans side of her genetics and lays a dark brown egg.

She lays a medium to light brown. Evidently she took more after the Orpington side. But that is okay, she is soooo sweet
