Dotty’s mugshot for Monday.

These next two shots are out of focus (photographing Dotty is difficult if you don’t want to lose your fingers) but they show what a mess she is still in. This is on the day she got sopping wet and of course then it was below freezing at night. She is definitely eating - you can see her crop bulge - and I could see some new feathers coming in.

Pear is in the same boat. She's going to bed early (but that's nothing new with her) and has a ton of tiny feathers sprouting down her wings, over her back, and along her sides under her wings. Silver dropped a couple of feathers while preening last night. She's still got some ratty looking ones along her bum, but seems more like she's doing a continuous slow molt (since last July)...honestly I don't think she's ever fully moulted before (she's almost 3)....🤔 if that's what she is doing, I think it's healthier than Pear's. Molt-wise, Silver hasn't broken stride: no behavior changes (other than staying out of the wind more), and no personality changes either...

Do be careful!
That snow on top of ice thing is what I was dealing with. It is scary stuff. Fortunately mine is all gone now.

Edited: new weather advisory for this morning - freezing rain with ice accumulation followed by snow. Ugh. It’s back!
Gravel or pebbles and curly wood shavings out now: build your texture so you have some traction in it

I don't recall. I tried to catch up on this thread last night and this morning but had to give up because I was an hour in and needed to workm
One approach would be just to read Mondays and Fridays to catch the mugs and the fluffy butts. You could skip in between.

She lays a medium to light brown. Evidently she took more after the Orpington side:(. But that is okay, she is soooo sweet :)
I'm happy yours is sweet. Mine, she is a troublemaker but nice to me. Unless a egg is involved, do not reach under her, she will bite you. She is also starting to act suspicious, she walked around angrily yesterday like a puffed up turkey. I think I saw evidence of where she has been plucking out feathers as well. I will have to grab her today to be sure, but I soon may have a broody on my hands. If so I will break her, not quite time yet to be setting big girl, lets revisit this idea around the middle of March.

What breed (s) is (are) that first hen? She's beautiful
She is 1/2 BR (dad) & 1/2 a light colored Americauna. She is beautiful, thank you. She is sweet, too, but a little leary - raised by 'momma' a broody DC, who will hang around me, but doesn't like to be touched.
