No need! Today DH said he’d build me a coop to save money. Yay! I’m so excited! I will be right alongside him so it turns out how I want. I know with absolute certainty the quality will be good, as he does very good work. I just don’t want him trying to control the size. I want an absolute minimum of 6x8. He has these wooded stagea I’d like to use as a floor, so that might dictate the exact dimensions.

Just don’t mention the other birds that you are going to get! Let him build it big!

Cats tend to take 1 and go someplace to eat. (No, haven't lost a chicken to a cat - YET, knock on wood), but a Bobcat lives around here. Multiple sightings in the area. However, my cat has caught song birds, mice, chipmunks, etc. Once she has one, she loses interest in the other song birds. Off she goes to eat half of it & leave the rest on the welcome mat for me

Ingredients: juice from 1 lemon or lime, 1 pint Kraft original bbq sauce (cheating a little), 2 cups brown sugar, 1/3 cup spicy brown mustard, 2 tablespoons garlic pepper, 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper, 2 tablespoons season salt, 1 tablespoon liquid smoke, 1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce. Saucepan on low medium heat. Put in the lime juice, sauce, and brown sugar and let that heat up, stirring occasionally. Then add in the other ingredients. I find the spices come out the longer you simmer. Add or subtract ingredient amounts per your taste.

Moments of Unity

All 6 grooming together today during free range.

And ranging together

There were definitely some peaceful moments today. There was also one moment today when Betty was bouncing among the big hens like a pinball as they pecked her to intimidate her. But mostly, it was peaceful.

Betty did consider checking out the big coop but Aurora was standing guard on the porch and Betty thought better of it.
