All those handsome boysFamous last words!
I was only going to have 8 chickens, ever, and I wasn't going to like them...just have them for the eggs.
Now look what I have: 82 Chooks, 9 ducks, a husband, a dog & a cat
(Well, in all fairness, I had the cat first!)

I learned it as 'shepherd's delight' and 'shepherd's warning'. Maybe the 'sailor' bit is coastal.I think that is only for the NE/New England coast....but I could be wrong.
Love both names! My mom gave him his name. We were all thinking of Dusty and she claimed everyone and their grandma had a horse named Dusty. She likes unusual names and decided he was Dirt. When she threw out that in all the shows we worked or attended had we ever saw a horse named Dirt we could not argue with her. I did not like it at first but it grew on me over time and he's Dirtman. I should also point out that before we got him her favorite mare that frequented the shows and won just about everything was named White Trash.
Oh dear - I may end up the same way - I have friends pushing me hard to get goats, donkeys and geese! Not friends who would help me care for them, friends who believe that these creatures would make me happy.Famous last words!

First up Dirt.
First picture I have of him when he arrived to the barn 4 months before we bought him and to me his official baby picture. He was 16 or 17 months old here.
