I got a first egg today! And it’s pretty large for a first…View attachment 2995337

This is Deans boy, possibly with a last name of sausage if he doesn’t straighten out and learn to be polite and gentle with the girls. Front and Center is Ziptie (still sporting her bracelet to no ill effect) and the dirty bum I didn’t notice until I uploaded is LuckyView attachment 2995339
Here we have Barney’s son also possibly a sausage candidate… quite popular with the younger Hyline ladies and please accept this as my tax offering for the following exciting news. I finally got my Boots! They have been on order for quite a while, and finally arrived in yesterday. I’ve included before and after pictures. I bought my last pair in November 2017. Daily wear, lots of hiking, walking, and working took a toll on them and last summer they finally sprung a leak (the right foot is just as bad). So for women’s boots I highly recommend these, the Ariat Terrain Waterproof. So thankful to have something other than gumboots to wear for working and walking in again!View attachment 2995341View attachment 2995340
Good pair of boots is a Canadian nessecity haha

Mine are full of horse poop which buttercup likes to pick at and eat 😣😣, I have a new song for that...

:hugs:hugs:hugsOh no… that isn’t good at all. I think it sounds like water belly/ascites. I remember going through that with Puffy. I am so glad you have a good vet to take her to. As others have pointed out Lilly has had a lovely life with you, and that speaks for more than anything else. I did treat Puffy with enrofloxacin and draining her with a needle which provided her with relief and several more months. She was a rescue however, and hadn’t had the opportunity to really chicken or live at all. I felt I owed her that chance and was able to give her a few good months at least.

Lilly has been loved and treated well for her entire time with you. Our thoughts are with you both and Lilly will be in our Prayers here.
Thank you Kris. Very kind words indeed. I am taking them to heart for sure. :hugs :hugs

Animals are very good at hiding things; you are very observant with your flock, I do not think you 'missed' anything.

Let's just wait to see what the Vet says, you're doing things properly, and making sure she is being looked after properly, you're a good chicken Dada.
Thank you for the kind words.

He is. Also, there's only so much that can be observed when they're tucked in warm while it's snowing.
I keep going back to her being her usual feisty self on Sunday. She dropped off so fast. They are very good at hiding if something is wrong.

I meant to weigh her before I took her back out on Monday. I might have caught it a day earlier if I had. I just thought it was her arthritis combined with the cold weather that caused the messy bum. I don't think a day would have changed anything at this point.

There is nothing like good boots. Your previous pair owe you nothing.

They served me very well, I finally gave up on them in December. And I’ve nearly worn through to the outer sole on the balls of my feet! The outside started to pull away too. I’m toying with the idea of cutting out the sides and turning them into some sort of strange sandal, 😆 if I do try to resurrect them for summer use I’ll be sure to post an update

That would be awesome! You need to do it! 🤣

Thanks Kris.

I have always remembered your kindness when Patsy passed. It has always stuck with me. It's weird to say but it is nice to have you back right now.
Always here for you my friend, and I am sorry I wasn’t here for more of last year. Be forewarned there’s as good a chance as any that I’m going crying too. The way I see it though is having such loved animal companions hurts us so much, but it makes their lives so very much better, that it is certainly worth it. I would rather have the heartache and grief and an animal that got to enjoy a good life, or at least some of a good life, rather than spare myself that loss. ❤️
