A formal introduction: Bernadette (aka Birdie)

Birdie is a brave little soul. She was the first to come out from under the heat cave, the first to explore the top of the heat plate, and the first to do acrobatics on the branches. She is a pecker constantly looking out for things to peck at. She has pecked both her sisters and when I put my hand in she pecks my fingers while everyone else shrieks and runs away.

Bernadette means 'brave as a bear' and I think she is as brave as a bear. Maybe even braver than a bear pound for pound ounce.

Birdie is a Welbar. Congratulations - both @rural mouse and @micstrachan win this with their Welsummer guess. Welbars are recognized as a separate breed to Welsummers in Britain, but not in the US. I think they are basically the same, but with Welbars you can tell gender at hatch. I think they are very pretty.

Here she is doing what she does.

I've heard of welbars. They're part the group of auto sexing breeds developed pre WWII. Legbars are another. There is also a Wybar (wyandotte based), I want to say a Rhobar?, and I think a few others. Now we get to see one grow up! :love
:love :love :wee

I never heard of a Wybar!
According to the oracle at Google the Legbar was developed in the late 1920s and the Welbar in the 1940s. Apparently the person who eventually developed the Welbar consulted with the person who developed the Legbar for advice.
I think they are lovely looking birds and I think I am going to enjoy Bernadette - I am guessing she will be a good forager given how she pounces on every little thing she comes across.

Most of those auto-sexing breeds are/were Europe based, at least where they were developed. I've been curious about the various ones (the cat again). it will be fun watching her grow through your pics/vids.
