We may be going through a cold snap currently but several of my hens have motherhood on their minds. Momma Hen is scouting out every hiding spot on the hillside. Holly I noticed a few minutes ago when I stuck my hand under her to check for a egg has plucked her chest bald. Baby and Squirrel are screaming at me when I even look at their direction while they are laying and Chiquita has started making the ticking time bomb clucks. It is now a race to the finish line to see which of these girls is going to be the first one to go broody. I'm placing my bets on Baby to be the first. Raven could not throw her out of the box this morning and had to resort to laying on top of her.

A formal introduction: Bernadette (aka Birdie)

Birdie is a brave little soul. She was the first to come out from under the heat cave, the first to explore the top of the heat plate, and the first to do acrobatics on the branches. She is a pecker constantly looking out for things to peck at. She has pecked both her sisters and when I put my hand in she pecks my fingers while everyone else shrieks and runs away.

Bernadette means 'brave as a bear' and I think she is as brave as a bear. Maybe even braver than a bear pound for pound ounce.

Birdie is a Welbar. Congratulations - both @rural mouse and @micstrachan win this with their Welsummer guess. Welbars are recognized as a separate breed to Welsummers in Britain, but not in the US. I think they are basically the same, but with Welbars you can tell gender at hatch. I think they are very pretty.

Here she is doing what she does.

Does that means she is part Welsummer and part Legbar....ohhh, if so, I am part correct tooo!!!:D:D:D:D:D:lau:lau
Bernadette aka Birdie is adorable, she will be one smart Lady, being so brave and inquisitive (giving, of course that , 'Momma' aka 'servant' will keep her fairly safe - a daunting task given Birdie's proclivities for finding trouble)
