I found the Welbar article. Basically they are descended from Welsummers and Barred Rocks. Welsummers are derived from a whole slew of chickens!
Both Welsummers and Welbars are now breeds not crosses - which I think means they breed true without introducing any other kind of chicken.

And here are the basics on the development of the Legbar.

One thing that I wasn't aware of was that the first auto-sexing chicken developed in Britain pre-WWII was a 'Cambar' - an auto-sexing Campine!
👏❤️👩‍🏫Thank you for this...I'm bookmarking, as I unfortunately can't remember💩 anymore and am sure I will need to reread it multiple times to actually remember most of it!

Something interesting: those stick tight fleas, (WILL STICK ON HUMANS) also. So be aware of that. I have been treating my hens, and found several on myself. :old
They are not the type of fleas that are found on dogs or cats. But can be spread by them.
Holy moly!!!! The ick factor ☺️

2fer Tuesday

I want your imagined conversation between these two. This is how they have been enjoying the weather around here.

@BY Bob I've been anxiously awaiting @MaryJanet 's wit on this. She comes up with excellent conversations!

A formal introduction: Bernadette (aka Birdie)

Birdie is a brave little soul. She was the first to come out from under the heat cave, the first to explore the top of the heat plate, and the first to do acrobatics on the branches. She is a pecker constantly looking out for things to peck at. She has pecked both her sisters and when I put my hand in she pecks my fingers while everyone else shrieks and runs away.

Bernadette means 'brave as a bear' and I think she is as brave as a bear. Maybe even braver than a bear pound for pound ounce.

Birdie is a Welbar. Congratulations - both @rural mouse and @micstrachan win this with their Welsummer guess. Welbars are recognized as a separate breed to Welsummers in Britain, but not in the US. I think they are basically the same, but with Welbars you can tell gender at hatch. I think they are very pretty.

Here she is doing what she does.

One of my favourite people is called Bernadette! It's a beautiful name. Very dignified.

I looked everywhere, all my pockets, closets, barns and coop. I just can’t find any puns anywhere. I’m sorry I can’t be punny today. :(
Sounds serious, might have to give you a dose of pun-liver oil. Or maybe a few days worth!

Have you tried taking some pun-icillen? could be a case strepti-pun-occal throat.
