Hmmm OK I guess I'm harping on this now and I'm truly not mad about it but I'd like to comment that this April Fools joke apparently had an element of duress in it. Reporting & enforcement notes? I do not approve of that. I'd like to point out the joke the moderators picked was not a particularly innocent-fun one, which it could have been.

Virus/hack scares are too real. In my past day-job I saw how many people have had their identities stolen. Despite our own security measures we encountered ransomware too (and our great and very expensive IT contractors were prepared and saved a very, very serious situation). So I would have been gullible through experience (besides by nature - yep that's me), but many people who are here on BYC are likely not very computer-literate but have heard the scary stories.

Whatever happened to the buttermilk-instead-of fresh-milk-in-the-carton kind of jokes? How about a wild and interesting new chicken breed, behavior or egg story? A fantastical thread that got pushed?
Oh my… I do agree, the enforcement note wasn’t so much that it was a you figured it out so we deleted your comment, and I didn’t even state it is probably April fools or anything I think my exact comment was “assuming it’s not an April fools, everyone is being asked to choose a new user name”. Enforcement note seems a little strongly worded…

But as to the whole hackers etc… I got a really good one in an email asking for money because they apparently tapped my webcam while I was on an adult site and would send the video to all my contacts if I don’t pay etc… yeah you do have a really, really old password of mine, but I know what I have and haven’t been looking at online so… lol good luck with that one buddy!

But yes, this one did seem to stress a lot of people out unnecessarily.

A couple of years ago I was getting absolutely smashed with the sextortion emails. Hubby set the spam filter to high, so it caught every new email address and you had to white-list the legit ones. You could also set a message that would bounce back to the sender. This is the text I use, feel free to copy and paste.

Hello. Thank you for your email; you have reached my automated messaging service.

If you are a scammer/blackmailer, please allow up to 10 working days for your email to be deleted from the server. Please be advised that your email will be deleted without being read.

If you are not a scammer/blackmailer, please allow a few days for your email to be retrieved from the spam filter and white-listed.

I am seriously full of emotions tonight!
-Happy that they seemed okay
-Anger because it happened at all
-vengeful because I could get even
-nervous about what might happen through the night
-lonely, because I still miss my original hens and roosters
(I’m a mess about this) :barnie:mad::he:th:caf And still on my laptop!
I am happy they are ok at the moment and hopeful they continue to be. I am also glad you know who the low-life is who is trying to harm your poor chickens. I cannot stand anyone who intentionally sets out to harm any animal. There is a special place reserved in a certain place for these people. I hope the sheriff is able to take some form of action against them. It is one thing to have to worry about natural predators, it is stressful enough, but I can not imagine the stress of having to worry about a neighbor as well.

After this mornings episode grandma was herself although she slept most of the day. I will say mom is finding her comfort with the horses while I am spending my needed breaks with the chickens. This evening when I was putting the chicks to bed and was reaching for the cover Ezzie hopped up onto the edge of the box then flew into my lap. She snuggled up and went right to sleep. I spent a extra 10 minutes out there with her. Of all the chicks Ezzie is the friendliest still. Partly due to the week where she was a lone chick and only has us for company, and partly due to being a silkie and naturally friendly. Butter was also in the coop with me since I was putting them up and I was letting her clean up the spilled chick feed she'd been desperately trying to get to all day. When she noticed Ezzie asleep in my lap she stopped eating and came to stand beside me and let me stroke her back for a bit. I thought a few times jealousy was going to get the better of her and she was going to hop up and try to run Ezzie off but instead she was content to just stand beside me.

Thanks RB. :hugs
