The Chook Taj Mahal is in!

After a bit of a late start, the guys arrived with the structure flat-packed in the back of a Ute. By the time they finished the light was beginning to fade but they got it finished. I’m so happy with it! I’ll need to varnish the door, the duck-walk and nest boxes so they’ll have to wait another week so the fumes clear, but that’s ok.

Wow that's beautiful!

Semi-Fluffy bums.

Asphodel hopped up for a bit.

The rest were more interested in staying warm/showing off their plumage. The Hobbit lasses are getting in those "laced" neck feathers: different pattern from the body feathers. Nox and Mera both have white breast feathers, Mera with some black patches (whole feather, not speckled). more curiosity being displayed, possibly due to whole tribe staying close to/in the coop most of the day. night time lows have been single digits with daytime highs in the mid 20s F. snow Monday night through Tuesday, then again yesterday/last night. some speculation with the in-laws Wed about seasons shifting. winter weather later into the spring, fall weather holding on to late November (in spite of a frost in September). They have turkeys arriving next month. having never watched those grow, I'm going to be visiting over there more often...

i frequent the duck page, but got adopted by that chickie (Brienne).

She has 4 sisters from her clutch and 2 baby sisters! She’s always been the “mommy”. we bonded because she had a completely/near complete blind sister. her and that girl were bonded, always cuddled, etc. when she started doing poorly, I took brienne to keep her company, so we spent time cuddling on the couch while I syringed food into her blind sister. It turns out, brienne herself is partially sighted. She needs some birdy glasses :p! thats when our relationship started. I was just sitting on the couch, them on a heating pad, when she gets up and runs up my arm, then nests down under my hair. Now, without fail, she runs up to me and gets head scratches. She plays “peekaboo” and will stick her head under my hand/into a hole I make with my fingers. She’s lost her two closest sisters, and I think we’re both kind of tired of it.

now that She’s around 2 weeks, she’s got a wild amount of feathers. When she sees me she stares, sizes me up, and decides if she can “fly” the distance to land on my arm. i just put my hand out instead of this, though. I’m not a fan of the flying at me (formerly scared of chickens). so, yes. My romp into chickens on accident has been quite tiring and i definitely appreciate chicken raisers so much more lol.

I’ll attach some pics of her and her sisters

that last one is a photo of her the first time she got onto my shoulders.
Awww you have made a wonderful friend 💖

Well better get cracking here, under another special weather statement here for high winds. Yesterday it was crazy windy and I had a vicious migraine all day (wind sets my migraine off), and I expect another miserable migraine day.

Want to get chores out of the way in case I need to hide out later on with a migraine 🙄🙄. Hopefully I can get some chicken tasks done today. I want to start work on the outdoor run, and fix the back barn door... fix some horse fencing that naughty Reenie has damaged, move hay, and feed... 😊

Wonder if home Depot is open today (good Friday likely not)...
