Good boy! I love snakes too… but sometimes a rooster has got to protect his flock.

And apparently they make a great snack (or is that snake?)....

Not much new news really but certainly no real progress so I am beginning to lose hope for her.

Never lose hope ever.

As long as she is eating and pooping I would just sit back and let her heal.

This young man right here, in my books he is a hero. Even mom admitted she did not know if she should love or hate him a hour ago.

What did he do you may wonder? He just killed a snake. I'm so proud of him, mom is slightly upset with him because it was a baby black snake. He also killed it right in front of mom so she knows it was him and not any of the other chickens that killed it. The reason mom is upset is she loves black snakes and will not let us kill them as they are a good snake to have around. Especially if you have a copperhead problem, which we do. The snake was trying to get into the coop with the baby chicks. I know it was little enough it could not have hurt them but it does not matter, Branch did his job. My big boys, they are terrified of it, will not come near it.

Maybe. But it is unclear if it is something that will heal.
I am in no rush to end her life. She is a sweetheart and as you can imagine I am spending loads of time with her. But I also don’t want to allow her to suffer.

Are toads ok for chickens to eat? I only ask because I rescued a road yesterday morning in the barn. It would have been easy picking for the hens.....

When Rocket broke her leg, and I tried to repair it, I knew she was suffering and I had to put her down. But now I regret it so much! So think about it very strongly, before taking that step!

Until that moment, I didn't believe that chickens were capable of killing so viciously!

Last week I caught buttercup pummeling a mouse into oblivion and tried to eat it. I took it away as I was worried it might have eaten mouse bait, even though she caught it outside. Well I thought she would tear my eyes out when I stole that mouse from her!! I gave her some scratch grain as a consolation prize

Today I watched them try to stalk a little sparrow!!

So nope not kissing them anymore
