The Corona chick, Cricket and Charlie. They are a week old now, and I am very confident, very much so that the Corona chick is a little girl. She is so delicate, and no comb, none, praise the lord. I was confident at hatch, and after a week, still nothing when the majority of pure marans if you catch them wet the boys have a obvious ridge of comb. I cannot believe my luck with her, the only 1 of the 4 eggs set to make it out, and not only is it a girl, I got the feathered feet as well. Now if she will only inherit her momma's fuller hackle markings. I will not know that until she is at least 10 to 12 weeks old.

Same here! Chickens are my pets, and not something I would despose of after use. Beautiful Flock!

I am the same way. I feel the same way. I my coop will be a sanctuary to hen who stopped laying once it is done being rebuilt. All five of my chickens are my pets.

I think you need to take a page from @Shadrach 's playbook and mentally investigate the situation. Like when Cheepy came running up to him one evening cheeping emphatically away. He deduced that she was trying to tell him 'mommy' got killed. when he discovered her feathers but not her the next day (or later that day, I forget now). They are pretty smart and - I think - like to let us know of new or changing events. We are kind of their 'adopted' flockmates.

Maybe she is trying to tell you about a good newly found worming spot....or something else?

I think Maggie may have been complaining about the events that played out between her and Diana a few minutes prior to this picture.
Diana dug up a grub. Maggie (who moves quite fast for a big lady) spotted this event and rushed over and snatched it from Diana's beak. Diana was having nothing to do with that and grabbed it back.
There was a brief discussion about sharing the grub but Diana put an end to that by swallowing it whole.

Yay, I got pics of their cute, just starting tails! (of course, I had to remove them from the brooder in order to do this...awe shucks, had to pick them up and cuddle! )

Maggie is hanging out on the table by my chair. There is obviously a lot she feels she has to tell me.
I am not a very satisfying audience for her as I don’t really understand what she is saying. So she has to repeat herself usually even louder than the first time.

You know, I think that is a nice calendar pic. Not sure if it is what BYC would pick, but I would certainly love to have that pic on my calendar...esp. if I was making one with my chickens in it!

Mera and Pear both colored out like that initially. Pear's feathers really changed in adult moult. Mera: waiting on that yet. Nox started out darker, and has fewer/darker spots on the feather tips

I was thinking of you fishing today and there I was stuck at work... Not that I was much interested in outside stuff today, it was darn chilly!

It's been really cold here today as well and it has really got to me. I've been useless
