Awwwwwwww that's so nice - and why can't we just sit in the chicken run? Last Saturday I fell asleep in the lawn chair with the chickens.... I awoke to Fluffy pecking at my ankle - owww!

But the sun was nice, and it was a nice day, and I was exhausted (not sleeping at night).... So hey who says you can't sleep with the chickies

She just teases me when I'm in the run with some of them when almost everyone free ranges during the day. Besides at night, I only use it when I have chicks I'm brooding myself who are transitioning outside or new members that I'm trying to befriend. She is not one to talk though, I have caught her sleeping in the stalls with both Russ and Louis. This normally happens when she is out in the evenings giving them a good groom and takes a break and sits on a milk crate.

Much to their dismay I just rounded up the 7 hooligans and locked them in the coop. I noticed one of the orp girls is limping. It is not bad at all, and I checked her over and everything feels good. They have just started roosting, and like head strong teenagers have decided they need to be on the high roost with the big chickens. Seeing as how it is the heaviest girl I believe she hurt herself when she flew down this morning. I've had it happen before with chicks at similar ages when they are learning to roost. In the past it has taken a few days being locked in the coop to limit activity and they are fine once again. Once they get done with their complaints, they can have a ball and help spread the fresh sawdust I piled in for them before I put them up.

Breakfast again today. This time clearly a squirrel. I appear to have a ready supply of squirrels somewhere nearby. I hope the supply lasts and he doesn’t go ‘hey, those chickens taste just like squirrel’

Dotty is a bit off today. Nothing I can see wrong but a bit lethargic. She was so busy and healthy yesterday.

1-4, left to right: buff OxEe out of blue egg, black out of my white eggs (should be cheetah x thing), bielefelder, my white egg: cheetah markings with cheek puffs so thing (really odd as kippenjungle genetics calc says ALL those should be black). The black has hints of brown in the back down so...?


Watched 1 hatch: 5 toes = Thing baby, making for 3 of those.

As of this morning, 3 more have hatched, bringing the total up to 12 so far. 27 eggs in the incubator, 6-7 for sure duds (lite up transparent). When I left yesterday, several were pipped, one of them a Storm egg, with a second last night. No pics of those yet.
