Bubba and Branch stepped up their game yesterday after Basil left. Basil had been taking on the role of staying with the momma's protecting the chicks. Yesterday Bubba stepped into that role flawlessly. He was on alert, and was feeding them when the mommas would let him. Branch stayed and guarded and escorted the other girls and hooligans. Being raised as brothers from hatch I thought these 2 would end up making the perfect team.
Bubba also is standing a little taller and prouder now. With Basil he was the lowest on the totem pole.

Thirsty Thursday #2

I did not expect this as my number 2 post but I figure Betty drank some pool water today.

It happens to every chicken here at least once. Let's hope Betty has learned her lesson.

Oh no, Betty was baptized today? I hope that she is doing okay now. I’m sure she is, but I’m not there to witness that.

Nope. I think I said this earlier. It is the lid off of the prefab. I'm using it to protect some grass seed.

She is fine, out running around with everyone. She was not in long and it's in the mid 70s today and sunny.

Nope I let her air dry. It was warm enough today. And yes, she was a sight to behold!

A red tail could carry Phyllis off.

Think about that for a moment.

Those were my usual hawks before the Cooper's showed up. There is a lot of cover for them to use because of that. I built up things to protect them from red tails and Hattie is good at managing taking the tribe from cover to cover.

The Cooper's is a different thing. I was however distressed that they did not react appropriately when the red tail was around today. Let me say not everyone ignored it. Hattie was hidden in the apple trees. Aurora had the rest of them on the deck.

It was a Red Tail that killed and ate Dolly and tried to kill Daisy, the greatest hen ever, twice.

Here is an example of my worry about Bernadette. She gets where she needs to get but with some difficulty.

Just keep Sif in mind. Chickens can spring back from all sorts of set backs. Patience is the key ~ & she hasn't given up.

She is just great. She has been too casual with the pool since the cover came off. Lesson learned I hope.
