Egg prices in the store average about 2.99 a dozen here. Normal eggs, not the fancy free range or organic eggs, those start out at 4.99 plus. I charge 3.00 per dozen and have no problem selling them. I am also giving away for free eggs to my grandpa, sister, 2 of my neighbors, and now to my brothers long term girlfriend to take to her grandma. I cannot in good conscious charge my neighbors even though they offer to pay. They both arm themselves with treats *raisins no less when I'm out* and their kids feed the chickens. The kids also love to hold the chickens and help me collect eggs when they see me outside messing with them. I also dare you to charge their parents for eggs when a 3 year old looks you right in the eye and tells you "Your eggs are the best I've tasted." Nope, cannot do it, here take a dozen home. I am swimming in egg cartons thanks to everyone I give eggs to. And it is a excuse to have more chickens. The neighborhood kids up the road love the silkies and "claim" them as their favorite chickens. The kids on the other end of the block think my Marans are the best chickens ever and claim them as theirs. If we were to throw them into the ever evolving chicken math equations, I really only own 1 chicken, Momma Hen.
