A sad update, Caramel didn't survive the surgery.
I'm too worn out to make a tribute like I did for Vanille. I will make a wish for her death. I wished Vanille an everlasting cherry tree, I'm wishing now that all ex-batts and high production hens may be free from needless suffering .

So sorry to hear this, I am glad though that you gave her a chance. You are a wonderful chicken lady, not many would go the extra mile.

And I love your tribute for all the hens to be free from needless suffering, I cannot think of as more beautiful sentiment

Oh, I wish I had gotten video… So these two girls finally managed after over six weeks of being broody to hatch one chick (and almost another that didn’t make it) last Saturday. They are co parenting it somewhat successfully so far, in that one usually keeps an eye on it, and both will try to murder you if you touch it. Unless they are both distracted by food or dust bathing. Well, little Ciaran got too close and they charged. He charged back wanting to play head butting games with the girls, and meanwhile they are intent on defending their lone chick to the death. I separated them four times, walked him away from the hens, but still the challenge was presented and he wanted to win. Someone was going to lose an eye because the girls weren’t playing around. I had to pop Ciaran back into the goat pen safe from the defensive mamas for a solid 15 minutes to get him to give up the “game” went back to Jimmy’s pedicure, and released them both after the little puffballs of doom had moved their precious baby far enough to be well out of sight. Any bets on the chick’s gender? all I see is a sea of little combs and wattles this year! View attachment 3202911

I feel your pain, I'm starting to go through similar though not yet as extreme issues with Ezzie. We had a new thing happen this morning when I let them out. Little turn ran up behind me and pecked the back of my boots as I was walking away. NO SIR, you do NOT do that. He was immediately scooped up and carried around like a baby while I finished the rest of my chores. That first surge of testosterone can turn even the sweetest of babies into full blown idiots for a time. Thankfully Bubba and Branch are keeping a eye on him and if he gets too out of hand will put him in his place right now. I feel for Bubba though. I already see it in Ezzie, that even though I'm little I'm the man attitude that Branch has. Poor Bubba may be the biggest boy on the place, but I think eventually he will be 3rd instead of 2nd in the pecking order among the boys. These hormones are also why Ezzie has the new nickname Ezekiel when he is in trouble. If he is like Branch, I will have my sweet boy back in about 2 months.

And I have Horus, Kren, and Whiskey building to that.....

Worked on getting the majority of the outdoor chicken run wire up.

Then I moved the temporary to outside the run so they have even more space to run amok

One of my cats diligently clears by desk for me. First he lays one way and swipes with his tail. Then he turns around and repeats the process.
Anything remaining after that he can swat off.
Once everything is on the floor he feels his job is done and goes elsewhere for a nap.

Send him here mine needs clearing!
