Came home yesterday to find Pear hunting grasshoppers around the hedge separating the lawn from the drive. Spent some time hunting with her (sharing my catches with the rest, trying to get them to come join, no luck, maybe today) and playing sentinel while she kept hunting. Went inside to make dinner and catch up here, saw RC and Greg's sad news.

Went out to close the coop later. No Pear, but this has become a frequent occurence.View attachment 3209995
Maizie is also the first one to eat out of my hand.. she took a ride into the coop...twice last night. Anyway, Pear missing....hadn't heard a ruckus, most of the girls settling (boys not so much) so started looking...circling the house and garage....grasshopper hunting areas....no Pear....she's down in the neighbor's horse pasture on the other side of their corral, hunting hoppers. Headed down (feather footed loving son saw and came to join me), she started back up...View attachment 3209996Paused for a drink, the horses aren't bothered and neither is sheView attachment 3209997View attachment 3209998She does watch her step coming back up the hill and here's whyView attachment 3209999
Hector was waiting for her upon her return. She still wants nothing to do with him, so I wound up chasing him off so she could get into the coop where he cornered her again....and Cheetah hopped down and chased him out. She hopped up to roost, finally safe from the Brat. Kren is fast following in Hector's footsteps. The next couple of months (at least) are going to be dramatic.
Wow that was great! Love how she can juuuuust reach that water tank haha!

Lots of cactus! Starting to get the fruit on it now I see.

I was surprised Pear could reach it (so hoped she'd do it again so i could get a pic). Silver doesn't bother with the stretch. She hops up on the rim. Buster used to take the ladies down. So did Rusty. Cheetah goes down sometimes. Not sure how the rest handle the height.

Wonderful! I'm glad. I personal am truly enjoying my new white chicken.

By the way, one of the things I saved for today was the fact that Glynda "legbarred" me yesterday. I opened the door to the big run to let them out into the grass and she flew right at my chest from the other side of the run. I barely had time to react and get out of the way! 😆
Oh yes - I am very familiar with that. Cute, though a bit scary!
