Have you checked the tightness of Mr. Pompeii's leg band? You mentioned cutting it off, might do that sooner rather than later, it sets high on his leg and appears snug in the picture. Is it?
No, it's actually loose, I can move it up and down and all around.

I haven't had a chance to remove it yet it's been so hot and humid I didn't want to stress him holding him. He sure is a wild one!

I could probably get all the dogs in our trucks but the only option for the chickens is to turn them loose and pray. Yeah it's a crap plan 😓
Ya it was my.original plan when I had a lot of horses here.

I keep some animal crates handy for the chickies now, and o have a tonneau cover on the truck, horses I can lead one the other three should follow.

It's one of the reasons I like my chickens friendly, if there is a need to get them collected quickly I don't want to be chasing them around. Mr Pompeii is very wild! I thought it was because he is new here but then I remembered my cousin's hens when they first arrived last year. They were very tame and quiet, I could pick them up no problem, and I was a stranger to them

I sure hope I can at least get Pompeii quiet enough to walk up and pick him up like I could Pangoo. Or I might need a fishing net, someone suggested here.

My friends, watch your expiration dates on frozen food in your freezer. I had a frozen burrito last night, and have been sick all night and all today. Package was out of date. Really messed me up. :sick

Ok chicken math economics:

Yesterday I got 5 eggs! Woohoo! Marty started back laying eggs even though she is molting .

The chickens pay for their feed with eggs! The horses need
To start laying eggs rather than road apples!

I thought they stopped laying when they melted???
No, chickens will lay eggs when molting. Phyllis laid all the way through her molt last year. Usually molting lines up with fall when laying slows down so they are associated with each other but they are not connected.

Poor Blanche is molting furiously and has a rather bald butt poor gal. That one loose feather was bugging me so I hauled it free and laid it on her back for her

And he is quite interested in them - I told him another few days then he could join them.

He is a handsome fellow. It's a good time to be molting when it is so hot. You have some smart ladies there.
