I feel like I have a good relationship with the other vet I found - and for Bernadette's leg she was perfect because she knew bird anatomy so could confirm nothing was out of place or broken and was then willing to work with me as we invented splints etc. But basically I don't think she has much chicken-specific knowledge.

This new guy I suspect knows his stuff (I looked up all his qualifications). I have no relationship with him as I never met him and I think he may be a tad dismissive of the owner. I was just reflecting, he found cecal worms and treated them with Ivermectin without asking me. I had to ask the receptionist when I collected Lulu what drug he had used. Now Ivermectin is off label and not supposed to be used in laying hens. Good that he is willing to go off label. Not so good that he wouldn't ask me first whether I was OK with the ambiguity of when it would be safe to eat her eggs. So I don't feel like I would ever partner with him in care like I did with the lady vet and Bernadette. Hmmm.

I will definitely try out the other one on the list next time - and maybe I mix and match based on the situation.
There is really no data on withdrawal for egg consumption in hens, no testing has been done apparently. But from what I read 2 weeks is what is suggested.

My small animal vet also won’t see people, but then she is battling cancer and very cautious about who gets in. Could be this man has similar problems??

I am actually gobsmacked at the lack of info and data on laying hens - poultry in general… with regards to meds etc - so sad!

Yes. I have read all the studies on Ivermectin residue in eggs. As you say, there aren’t that many!
My point really was he should have discussed it with me.
I am actually fine with it but he doesn’t know me. He doesn’t know that I don’t make my living selling organic eggs. He doesn’t know that I am not afraid of ingesting some Ivermectin myself.
I feel the right thing would have been to give me some information and ask my permission.
Anyway, no worries really. Just reflecting that I think it probably reflects his mindset towards owners. And honestly I don’t hold the not meeting against him - I totally get being happier meeting animals than people. I have a good dose of that in me too!

I am missing my babies, my cameras are still down as I have been so miserable today I didn’t get around to fixing the network issue to the barn. I could barely get the horses fed and watered.

I can barely type this… and I can’t pay my taxes 😢😢😢 - sorry Bob.

I almost asked my mum to go out and take photos. I think I will soon drag my butt out there and do the horses for the night, and put everyone to bed for the night.

Oh no. You sound miserable!
Is there anyone else who can fix the connectivity so at least you can curl up on the sofa and watch your babies?
Maybe some teenager in the area (they always know more about internet things than I do!).
Get well soon and in the meantime :hugs :hugs :hugs

I get that totally he really should have asked. Same with my vet trimming Henny Penny nails when I went to see her for a consult - not a Nail trimming!

Not being able to be face to face with the owner is a huge issue when discussing care, and it made me very annoyed with my Vet (if she isn’t able to see clients she shouldn’t be practicing- but that’s just my opinion), she should have either phoned me on my cell or spoke through the door with me.

I truly get that he assumed you would agree with treatment. Charging me $50 to trim nails and not truly answering my questions on her nails had me in a twist also!

Have to say though I am happy to see Lulu seems a bit better.

I know what it is, the transmitter/ receiver needs to be re-paired, but it fuddle climbing ladders, disconnect Ethernet cables…

And somehow I managed to get pine sap in my hair and couldn’t get it out - I got angry grabbed the scissors and hacked it out 😳 hahaha thankfully I long hair so I can hide the hacked out section.

Ok IOU tax for whining Bob

Have I used this one before?

Just feel the need to point out that while I am sure you are brilliant at this, probably someone else could climb a ladder and fiddle with Ethernet cables.
:hugs

FWIW, sticky ANYTHING, including sap in hair is a simple fix: olive oil. Work it into the area the sticky is in. Keep working it around. It has the lowest flash point of all the cooking oils so thins out at the lowest temps (body heat and/or a hair dryer), making it thin enough to work into extra fine hair and get under the sticky. Wash it out with soap/shampoo. (Even works with lice eggs....although a tea tree oil shampoo is better for washing out the oil at that point). Dunno how well that would work on feathers.

Littles aren't so little and are getting exploring in. Maizie and Pippa are almost as big as Twirp. Caught Kren going around the far side of the house last week, through the hedge on Saturday and on the deck this evening (NONE are allowed on the deck: Castor needs safe places to retreat to)
