The chickens are absolutely freezing this morning and so am i. The cold breeze is a reminder that winter is not far away! So soon, to. It seems like yesterday it was so hot.

Em’s feet were icecubes this morning, all wet and cold. She was shaking and puffy. They all are cold but she is the only one with feathered legs, and it gets her feet more cold and wet.

How is everyone else doing with the cold? If its affecting anyone else.

It is a gloriously chilly 50 degrees and I am LOVING it!!

I had the same issue, but I had to stop the grower because it was a medicated feed. Couldn’t get starter feed without. And my chicks where out and about with the oldsters so had to just move them to layer. Luckily my grower has 18percemt protein so decent amt.

I would have kept them on the starter d/t to higher protein - I feed calcium (oyster shell), but yes I agree the higher protein for feather production.

I have been leaning towards changing to a different feed but the mill I deal with only Carries the one brand.

I'm going with grower and oyster shell.

They can really clear the whole tree in a night - several years I lost them all because I waited ‘one more day’ for them to ripen!
My late night makeshift baffle seems to have worked!

Great pictures! I like all chicken colors but goodness the iridescence in those black feathers is stunning. Reminds me of the Aurora Borealis.
